Morning All. I have been trying for many years to track down the birth/baptism of Ann KNIGHT born 1802 (give/take 5 years). She had several children to Thomas BEARPARK of Ainderby Steeple in many places as it would seem that they moved around. I've been unable to find a marriage. In the 1851 census the family are in Darlington and Thomas is a "Temperance Victualar". The enumerator has put North Driffield as Ann's place of birth. He has also noted Leyburn as a place of birth for their first born (born 1828) as being the one in Kent but it's the Yorkshire one so could he be wrong.....?? (I have the birth certificate for my Charles BEARPARK who had the deceny to be born on 2 Sep 1837.....just scraped into registration. No clues on it naturally). In 1841 she has said Yes to being born in Yorkshire. In 1861 it's Driffield. 1871 it's not clear but could be either Driffield or Duffield and 1881 it looks like North Duffield. She died in 1887 whilst living with her son in Skelton by Guisborough. North Duffield church records either don't exist or aren't filmed. It's possible they went to a larger village but which one? So far in my quest to pin this down I haven't been able to find a marriage for the couple. There are a few possible baptism on the IGI for Ann KNIGHT but nothing in either area. I've checked the Ancestry public trees for clues and while she is mentioned - no parents have been given as yet. I aren't fan of those trees as too much uncorroborated work appears but they can sometimes give a clue which can be followed up. Just in the past few days it occurred to me that being a Termperance Victualer might indicate them being Methodist or Quaker. Searching Google I find a photo of the Methodist chapel in North Duffield and a web site so will send an email to see if anyone can help. No mention of Methodist records fro North Duffield on LDS catalogue though. It's feasible they are still at the church. Having quite a few Methodist connections in my family I've always found it nigh on impossible to find those records. Indeed I can't even locate my own Methodist baptism record which niggles at me from time to time. Of course I didn't ask the right question when Mum and Dad were still alive and although I have two elderly aunts still alive both say the same thing.....we don't know.."it wasn't a big thing back then". So oh knowledgeable ones......what am I missing??.....any suggestions as to where to go from here gratefully accepted bearing in mind I'm half a world away in Australia. I am hoping someone a bit removed will see something I've missed. Many tia's Trish Ex Hull lass on central coast of NSW.
Hi Trish, On Family Search there is a marriage of Thomas BEARPACK to Anne KNIGHT on 6 Jun 1827 at Fingall, York, England. Also several births to the couple (with name BEARPARK).
