    3. Thanks for the additional census and marriage information Lin. I do appreciate the time you must have taken to put these together.  Why do you think this isn`t the correct man? It all seems to fit the same pattern to me at first glance,  or am I missing something? I`ve checked on the map I have and Manningham is about one and half miles north of Park Road, where the Von Halle`s were. I can`t work out the address for Manningham, but it doesn`t seem to be any further than the address in the 1901 census. Which I would agree, seems a little to far, but in the absence of any other person. I believe this could be the man. I`m leaving the puzzle alone now for tonight, it`s getting late, and maybe my I`m missing something. But I really appreciate the bits of information you`ve passed onto me. All the best. George. >________________________________ > From: Lin <dml5481@hotmail.com> >To: George Carter <gacarter@btinternet.com>; YORKSGEN@rootsweb.com >Sent: Sunday, 19 August 2012, 22:05 >Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] John Thompson & Von Halle family in Bradford > > >George > >I hate to dash your hopes, but don't think this is your John in 1901. > >From 1901 census Bradford, Yorks RG13//4158 folio 43 page 26 > >John THOMPSON 49, mar, coachman, born Donnington, Lincs >Margaret THOMPSON, 44, mar, Doncaster, Yorks >Emmiline THOMPSON, dau, 17, clog iron mender, Badford, Yorks > >(JohnWilliam married Margaret  Beach STEELS in 1892 Manningham. The John Thompson was a Coachman Groom.(Thanks Maureen for that). The only thing that has me wondering about the findings is that on todays, map It`s about 3 miles by road from Park Drive, where the Von Halle family were living and Canary Street, where John Thompson was living. I expected to find him a bit nearer than that.  Has anyone any experience of servants living away from the home of the employer in the 19th and early 20th century?. I know today it wouldn`t take long to bob from one address to the other, but it seems a bit far in the time before the motor car. I expected him to be close to hand. There is a possibility that the streets on todays map don`t correspond where they were in 1901 has anyone any local knowledge? Has anyone any thoughts on this. Thanks for any help. George. .....
