One time when we were in York, we stayed at Wentworth College housing. We found it to be a very pleasant experience, with lovely walks to and from our destinations. Transportation was readily available, breakfasts were included, and the other meals were available. Have never stayed near the racecourse, so can't compare - and don't know if everything is the same as when we were there, but we both decided that we would be happy to stay there again. We considered it an excellent choice, especially for the price. Have NO desire to undermine what has been suggested, but there is time before then to explore other venues, since there seem to be questions surrounding the race course location. And there is a pub nearby.
