    3. The problem with the Pound symbol is that the various SMTP mail servers can interpret the symbols in the extended character set (which includes the Pound symbol) differently depending on the encoding used eg ISO, ASCII, UTF-8 etc. so there is no simple answer to the use of the traditional Pound symbol, thus the ALT+156 keys will not always give the same symbol at the receiving end. The only way round this problem would seem to be the use of the commonly accepted abbreviation GBP >Date: Sat, 04 Aug 2012 10:40:05 +0200 >From: Rita Effnert <kessie3@online.de> >Subject: [YORKSGEN] The ? sign >To: YORKSGEN@rootsweb.com >Message-ID: <501CDFE5.3090601@online.de> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15; format=flowed >Press Alt and then 156 on the keys on the right-hand side and up comes >?........Rita in Germany Regards Vernon Dunhill in Hertfordshire (UK)

    3. Alternatively, in the Symbol dialogue box, when you have worked out which combination creates the Pound symbol, you can, using the Shortcut Key button, then create your own shortcut - e.g I use ALT$ Léonie Fretwell Burra, South Australia lfretwell@bigpond.com www.fretwell.kangaweb.com.au   -----Original Message----- From: yorksgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:yorksgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of V L Dunhill Sent: Sunday, 5 August 2012 8:01 PM To: yorksgen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] The ?
