    3. It can be difficult but it is surprising how many times it is possible to get quite quickly to a small range of results. At least you can go straight to getting a copy of the record. It is particularly difficult if you have no idea where to look for someone but that is always the case though at least with England you have a chance to do some searching free. Ancestry and FMP now have (most of?) the Scottish censuses though not the full images, just a transcription. There are some good FHS, I was a member of the Aberdeen and NE Scotland FHS for some time because it gave me access to the English BMD before they were online. There are some very comprehensive references for the Western Isles in a series of books published by one researcher. Does anyone know of a way of searching effectively Scotlandspeople as it seems such a rip off to do a search, pay to view each page of results and then pay to view the image without even knowing I've got the right people as there doesn't seem to be a way of inputting place of birth into the search engine and as to the 1911 census.........!
