    1. [YORKSGEN] The origin of the name for Mollicar / Molly Carr Woods
    2. Roger Gill
    3. Hi all After a short ceremony to "open" the Jubilee Memorial seat in our village this morning I took the opportunity of discussing Molly Carr woods with Dr George Redmonds. He who has published several books on the origin of people/place names. He has followed the Examiner newspaper discussions so is aware of the interest. In all his studies of documents, including ancient court rolls etc, related to places in Farnley Tyas and Almondbury he has not found any reference that would help to establish the origin of the name. He is also sceptical of the association with birds names and reminds us that the word "carr" is a reference to swamp rather than a wood. So, sorry Margaret, but we do not seem to be any nearer establishing the origin of the name. And, just seen in todays Examiner, should anyone fancy an early morning outing tomorrow, Sunday 27th May, Almondbury Methodist Church people are starting the "Sing" at 7.30 am. The sing takes a walk through the woods stopping to sing hymns at various points en route.
