    3. Hello all, This week we had the 154th Great Yorkshire Show. Usually it is a 3-day event, at the showground at Harrogate. Last year it was attended by an estimated 140,000 people. http://www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk Yesterday, for the first time in its history, the show was cancelled, at the end of the first day. This was due to unprecedented rainfall, before and during the show, making the ground unsafe to walk on and impossible to park cars on! Brenda Green and I were there with our Family History stand (www.yorkshireancestors.com) for our eighth visit, and we were very, very busy. There is certainly a lot of interest in our hobby. Jackie Depelle and Sara McGinlay were there too, helping us to answer questions. When the rain came down, Jackie gave us an impromptu family history class, to entertain about twelve people who were stranded on our stand during the downpour. We have been there today, packing up, and cleaning off the mud. We are sad for all the people who have lost a lot of income, due to the cancellation, but we are now looking forward to next year! It can’t happen again, can it? We had a really fun day yesterday, in spite of the weather, and I am reminded of the little rhyme my mother used to say: Whether the weather be cold Or whether the weather be hot Whatever the weather We’ll weather the weather Whether we like it or not! Now looking forward to Saturday, when our visitors start to arrive in York for Yorksgen 2012!!! Regards, Janice Wood
