    3. The first Yorksgen I attended, we had a chap speaking about non conformist religions. It was an entertaining talk believe it or not, but the poignant thing I have remembered is that the infant morality rate (deaths per 1000 in the first 5 years of life) was 1:2 in the industrial areas. Victorian hymns such as 'when he cometh to make up his jewels' which I used to think were yuk were a real comfort to parents who had lost children. The sad aspect is , however, that none of the children survived beyond infancy or childhood. Nevertheless, Rebecca nee Hindle was the first wife of my gt grandfather, Benjamin Town. They married on July 15 1828 and then produced 30 children, all recorded in batches on a memorial stone in Keighley Parish churchyard. Rebecca died in 1851 after which Benjamin remarried and I am descended via his second wife. Rebecca was a twin so it seems probable that there were some twin pregnancies to have produced 30 children in 13 years.   David Y   In a message dated 25/07/2012 07:27:31 GMT Daylight Time, christine.willott@btopenworld.com writes: The list is rather quiet at present so on the way back from the Wakefield archives yesterday, we decided to suggest a competition. Family sizes in the past were large so who has got the family with the most children to any one set of parents? Step families are excluded. Then we thought who had the most girls in a family and who had the most boys? > >Chris >..... >Ancestors in Yorkshire? http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/index.html; >www.ryedalefamilyhistory.org; www.wharfedalefhg.org.uk; >www.yorkshireparishregisters.com; www.yorkshireroots.org.uk; > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to YORKSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
