It was a 3-mile cross country handicap race and, as far as I recall, I got three minutes start on him and he came past me like a train after about half a mile or so! A couple of years later he broke the world mile record. However, as I have explained in an earlier post, old-time Yorkshiremen and women who are no longer in the public eye don't really meet the criteria that has been laid down for me unless they suddenly become news again for some reason.
