As a list owner myself I get quite a few messages from rootsweb telling me that a message had been sent to my list by a non subscriber and asking for my approval before allowing it to go to my list. 99 times out of 100 I report it as spam and tick the boxes to send it to the spam folder and also to ban the sender from posting to the list. On the odd occasion I allow it through it was because the message was too big and exceeded the allowable size. Other occasions when a message has gone through by a subscriber as an obvious spam was because the email address had been hacked and the real subscriber was not aware of it The messages I get from rootsweb is on almost daily basis and I have to go to the rootsweb site to deal with it which is annoying. Other times you get a possible spam message check the recipients you may find quite a few and the lists shows clearly that it is a spam message Victor Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device -----Original Message----- From: JANICE WOOD <janwood50@btinternet.com> Sender: yorksgen-bounces@rootsweb.com Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2012 13:10:21 To: JJupar@aol.com<JJupar@aol.com>; Davidandmaggie@aol.com<Davidandmaggie@aol.com>; yorksgen@rootsweb.com<yorksgen@rootsweb.com> Reply-To: JANICE WOOD <janwood50@btinternet.com> Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] non gen.....Deleting spam without being unsubscribed Hello David, Does this supposed Yorksgen message appear in the Yorksgen archive at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/YORKSGEN/? If so, then I have missed it, but it should be reported to Rootsweb immediately. If it does not appear in the archive, then it is not a genuine Yorksgen mail and should be consigned to your spam folder and deleted. The Rootsweb system filters out all spam mails - or should do. No message can get through to the list unless from a genuine subscriber, with an email address that the system recognises. I have received a yorksgen post today with a very obvious spam heading and if I designate it as such, will I be unsubbed? David Hi David I have the same problem. If only people would sign their letters in the usual way I am sure it would stop this.
