I seem to remember that although there was no census in 1941, there was a record taken for ID purposes and to guide conscription possibly in the late 30s. Can anyone remember what this count was called and does anyone know where to access the info if it is available? Is it at the NRA? We are struggling to find the WW2 men on the local war memorial. Any ideas of where to look would be appreciated. When the families disappear from the electoral role when they move - where do you look? Freebmd is incomplete and only goes as far as the 1980s. The parish records are available on Ancestry but are not proving helpful. I have yet to try the local media. The school admission records have been checked and not all of the men went to school locally. Next year is the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2. We had a packed house again at the remembrance Sunday service this morning with many of the WW1 families we have traced coming.
