    1. [YORKSGEN] Military history

    3. I wonder if anyone can help me with this enquiry. One of my forebears was pensioned out of the Army prior to his regiment going to the Crimea. On an army pension list he is mentioned as being at Leeds. Was there a pensioners' hospital there? His name was Thomas Baxendale. Formerly of Almondbury, Yorkshire. He was a Colour Sergeant in the 68th Regiment of Foot. His dates - 1811 to 1857. He served in Canada, Scotland, Gibraltar, Jamaica, Canada again, before being discharged in Ireland “Worn out through long service” He was admitted to the Leeds Residence for pensioners on 11th July 1854 and died there (I surmise) on 12/11/1857. I have a reference number: F25,573/27, if I remember correctly, I got these details from the Chelsea Pensioner Register of Soldiers who served in Canada 1743 - 1882. I have traced his military career with only small success and would like to know how and where he died as he was only in Leeds for two and a half years. His daughter, Frances Baxendale (married name Hollingworth) was my 2xgreat grandmother. I wonder if Yorksgen has any Military historians out there? Christine Buckland

    3. Christine I assume that you have checked his service record on FMP? Have you got his death certificate as that may give you a clue?
