Hi Pauline, My ancestors came from Skelton, just outside of York on the A19. Andrew Hume was the schoolmaster of Skelton for 35 years before he passed away in 1851. His father, was the schoolmaster at Shipton, and many descendants of Andrew have become teachers and schoolmasters. Years ago when investigating Andrew's school records I was helped by the lady who runs Skelton's Historical Group. She was good enough to supply me with some school records dating from 1851 onwards. I'm afraid I don't have any contact details, but as you live so close to Skelton, you might find the group.
