Hi Glenda Thanks for your research and suggestions. They have certainly made me think further about this puzzle. I know that there was a Henry Trott, a mariner, living in Hull at the time George Mennens Trott was apprenticed in that city, and as it was to a ship owner, I felt they were likely to be father and son and have been trying to prove/disprove this. Henry Trott had 2 other children born before George and they were born in Hull. Maybe Henry & George aren't father & son after all but might be related - uncle/nephew?
