    3. As I read the information on Peter Higginbothom's website there wasn't one until 1854. The Yorkshire spirit rejected the Poor Law Union in many areas.     3. if you start reading at the top of the page: Up to 1834 A parliamentary report of 1777 recorded local workhouses in operation at Batley (for up to 40 inmates), Dewsbury (30), Gomersall (70), Heckmondwike (26), Livesidge [Liversedge] (40), Mirfield (30), and Ossett (80).
