    1. [YORKSGEN] Godfrey (Godfridus) Bayley, b. abt 1590, Almondbury

    3. Hello, This is my first foray into English genealogy, but I have done a fair amount on another line in Wales. I am hoping the process is similar, but still would appreciate tips. > The man I will be hunting for is Godfrey (Godfridus) Bayley (various spellings), born abt Aug. 30, 1590, in or near Almondbury, Yorkshire. He is possibly the son of Christopher. Both Godfrey and our ancestor John (which I think may be his son) came to the US. John was born abt June 24, 1610 in or near Bradford, Yorkshire. I imagine those birthdates are christening dates, but no way to tell without records. Where should I look? Is anyone else related to this line? > I have just joined this Yorkshire rootsweb list, but am not sure if there is a more local, active list. So, if I should be on another list, please let me know. > I have never been to Yorkshire, but it is on my must-do list. > A lot of people are interested in this line because a later descendant fought in the American Revolution as an American Patriot, so they have had to produce records to join the Daughters of the American Revolution. By time the name reached my great-grandmother, it had standardized to BAYLESS. I have seen Bayle, Bales, Bayliss, and several other variations. Thank you for any help. Mona in Wisconsin, USA
