In Nunnery Lane, about half way down Colin Wilson operated a butcher's shop. I think it was originally owned by my g.g.f William Wilson who also had a butcher's shop in the Shambles and I think another butcher's shop also. William also lived at Red Hill farm in Huby. On my father's side the Cox family lived in and around Micklegate for generations. John started off a bakers business in the early 1800's, possibly because his father and grandfather were Millers. His son Thomas continued on with the business until the 1860's whereby the business seems to have faded away. Probably a result of his son (my ggf) taking up the plumbing business. Now the address of Thomas was 1 Blossom Street, and is on his Freedom certificate, which maybe, when viewing old York photo's, be his residential address. Certainly his shop would have been in the proximity of the area you are interested. I can get further information if you require, but if you do discover my family name in your research I would love to hear.
