Hi Listers I am currently pursuing the theory that both myself and the former Liberal Prime Minister have a common ancestor but have encountered a stumbling block and wondered if anyone can help me unblock it please. HH Asquith's father was Joseph Dixon Asquith and his grandmother was Esther Asquith nee Dixon. Esther was born 15th May and baptised 9th June 1794, the daughter of Joseph & Sarah Dixon - a non-conformist baptism at Morley New Chapel. The stumbling block is that there are two possible marriages for her parents and I cannot see how to differentiate between them, neither being non-conformist. The marriages in question are as follows:- Joseph Dixon and Sarah Brook, both of the parish, were married by banns on 16th May 1790 at Batley All Saints Joseph Dixon and Sarah Roberts, both of the parish, were married by banns on 26th October 1791 at Batley All Saints I have looked at both parish register entries and apart from establishing that these were different Josephs as one wrote his name and the other left his mark there was nothing to assist. Both marriages were in the presence of a John Dixon. If anyone can assist I would be delighted to hear from them. Kind Regards Howard Mais
