Hi Ray, Thank you for your email. I shall be happy to investigate Francis Wilson. Please could you let me have the relevant census returns and a copy of the letter. What numbers in Swann St did Alfred live at? I believe that Jacques Yard was behind Swann St. You can find out by looking at the neighbours on the census. There are some interesting photos of Swann St and Nunnery Lane on Imagine York which you can google. I went to Mill Mount school from 1963 to 1970 when I moved to London. I returned to York 9 years ago. The Bay Horse Inn is at 25 Blossom Street and with the Mount Hotel is just out of our area. His premises were listed as 20 New York Street in the 1861 and 1871 census, which I believe is now part of Nunnery Lane. Francis died in 1871, aged 39. It was particularly interesting for me to find this out as I was a pharmacist all my working life. I don't have any photographs unfortunately, but I do have a very brief letter from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society outlining his career up to his death, as well as the various census returns &c which I guess you have access to anyway. His son Alfred, my G Grandfather, lived in Swann Street in 1881 and 1891, and Jacques Yard in 1901. He was a painter. I guess it was not the houses that are there now though. I was born in York, and my father still lives there now. I moved away many years ago, after going to Nunthorpe School between 1963 and 1970. I also have a Thomas William Powell who was a hotel keeper and landlord at the Mount Hotel in 1901 and the Bay Horse Inn, Blossom Street in 1911. I don't know if this is of interest to you or not, and I don't have anything other than what's in the census returns &c. Let me know if I can help you any further.
