    3. Hello Dave >From the burial/death record of 1776 this Joseph Porritt was born about 1711. There was a Joseph Porrett baptised at Skelton in Cleveland on 26 Feb 1714 - father Francis. In those days people were not sure of birth dates so the three year difference would not rule this out. What were the names of Joseph's children?? Kind regards Margaret O'Shea Oxford. My ancestor JOSEPH PORRITT married MARY PRISSICK at Egton in 1749, and later died at Monkhesledon, Co. Durham in 1776. Despite knowing the names of his siblings from family wills, and having a name which is not too common, I have not been able to find any clues as to his origins. His siblings were: John Porritt (had a son & a daughter and died before 1776) George Porritt (will proved 1776, lived at Hart, Co. Durham, no children mentioned) Robert Porritt (alive in 1776, had 2 daughters. A tenuous link is that there was a Robert Porritt who had two daughters in Egton 1727 & 1730, but there is nothing beyond the fact that Joseph married in Egton, and Porritt being uncommon in Egton, to link the two) Mary Porritt (alive in 1776, and probably unmarried) Nicholas Porritt (alive in 1776, had 4 daughters. There was a Nicholas Porritt in Guisbrough at the right time who had 4 daughters, and looks a likely candidate) Help! Dave
