Hi Christine, Many thanks for that suggestion. I'm afraid the Axminster William GODDARD married Lavinia PERRY and was still in Axminster in subsequent censuses when my William was away in the army. I have looked, I think, at all the William Goddards born within about 5 years of 1835 and tried to track them through the censuses and/or burials. I can't be absolutely sure I've eliminated every one, but I've tried. Sadly, the marriage register for the Garrison chapel in Monteal doesn't record the parents' names - it's not like a contemporary British marriage register. So no help there either, I'm afraid.
