Dave According to a transcript of the marriage Licence he was age 25 (she was 23) and both from Carlton. There were quite a few PORRITTs in Skelton in Cleveland, including a Nicolas. Thanks Lin, I've seen this t/s in the index. She was definitely from Carlton, but there are no records of him (or any Porritts) in Carlton. There was a Porrett family in Faceby, but no record of a Joseph, or any of the other names apart from John. The t/s also mentions that the marriage should take place at either Egton or Lythe. For some time I thought the mention of Lythe might be a clue, as this is the parish with probably the most Porritt records in the area, but I cannot find any of the family there either.
