    3. Judith Sorry for not replying earlier but was busy all day yesterday. As you have the answer from others it is not that I am replying about but who transcribed the 1881 census I believe that everyone should know and understand who transcribed what as many are blamed when in fact it is not their fault. The 1881 census was transcribed as a project between the LDS church (familysearch) and the English, Welsh and Scottish family history societies. The index that both Ancestry and Findmypast use is the same database that was original available nearly 20 years ago on CD and which many of us purchased! Hence the reason that both appear to have made the same original error Regards John Hanson Researcher, The Halsted Trust Website - www.halstedresearch.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: yorksgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:yorksgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of judith.varley via Sent: 15 March 2016 09:51 To: YORKSGEN@rootsweb.com Subject: [YORKSGEN] 1881 census Hi List,I wonder please could someone check a name out for me in above censusthe address is4 Rathbone Place LiverpoolRG11 Piece no 3616fol 116 page 21Robert McGuire lives there with wife Janeits the daughters name we're not sure aboutFMP and Ancestry have her down has Emmy in their indexersage 4 yrs but on the original it looks like ENNY wouldthat be short for Henrietta , I can't find the family in 1891Thankyou Judith ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to YORKSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hello Everybody, With reference to John Hanson's message earlier today I was one of the transcribers and I did a small part of Carlisle. It was quite a nightmare because there were a lot of Irish people there. That resulted in a lot of unusual surnames and even worse was the large number of locations that were unknown to me. It was quite obvious the enumerators had quite a struggle to sort things out.
