For anyone who has had difficulty With missing images in this new dataset on Ancestry, I have had the following very helpful suggestion from West Yorkshire Archives, and confirmation that the full set of images should be there " .. if you find any index only entries to probate records there is a way to try to find the associated image. If you make a note of the document reference number there is a way to browse the records using that number. Each of the Archdeaconry of Richmond probate records start with the reference RD/AP1. The next part of the reference number refers to the boxes they are found in and the last part of the number is the individual item number. So, for instance, if you were to search for the records of Bryan Pick you'll get an index card with the reference RD/AP1/157/126; the number 157 refers to box 157 and the number 126 is the 126th bundle within that box. The images do seem to be there but for some reason they're not linking to the index pages. To find them, from the Ancestry home page, click on 'Search' and then 'Card Catalog'. Type 'Yorkshire Probate' into the search box and this will provide a link directly to the probate records from the West Yorkshire Archive Service. >From here, you'll see a drop down menu on the right hand side of the screen saying 'Browse this collection or Browse Individual Records in this Title. To browse this image set, select from the options below.' This then should allow you to choose the relevant box number (see below). You can then choose the exact box number and then click on that to browse the image data set. The records should have been filmed in number order. It's also worth noting that the cover sheet for each of the wills contains the reference number of the document so you are able to check you've got the right one. Bryan Pick's will is image 525 of 580 for instance. Thanks for the update Dave I thought that was what you were going to say I suspect the images will be linked in due course but at least they can be located, albeit by a circuitous route Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 23/03/2016 18:47, Dave King wrote: > For anyone who has had difficulty With missing images in this new dataset on Ancestry, I have had the following very helpful suggestion from West Yorkshire Archives, and confirmation that the full set of images should be there > > > " .. if you find any index only entries to probate records there is a way to try to find the associated image. Hell Dave, Thank you very much for the helpful instructions to find the missing images. I have just had a wonderful discovery of two sets which were not linked, being listed as index only. Thanks again, Eileen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave King via" <yorksgen@rootsweb.com> To: "Nivard Ovington" <ovington.one@gmail.com>; <yorksgen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2016 5:17 AM Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] Richmond wills on Ancestry > For anyone who has had difficulty With missing images in this new dataset > on Ancestry, I have had the following very helpful suggestion from West > Yorkshire Archives, and confirmation that the full set of images should be > there > > > " .. if you find any index only entries to probate records there is a way > to try to find the associated image.
