Hi Brian There is a facility in FTM to record alternative names. Go to Facts page and then click on the blue cross to 'add fact'. There is then the option of 'Also Known As' Once you've added this extra name got to Tools, Options, Names/Dates/Places and tick the option 'Use AKA if available' as an additional entry. Both names will now show in the index. This works just as well for forenames eg a person born Margaret but who was known all her life as Peggy. Hi Brian and Lin, You can also go assign the new "father" as a step-father. First attach him as a father and then go into the relationship screen and change the relationship to step-father (or anything else you choose). Whether you want to do that or not depends what links you want to show. Thanks, Lin, for the info about 'Use AKA if available'. I have often used AKA but been frustrated as it didn't help in searches etc. Presumably this will remedy that.
