I would like to thank Lin for posting about the index of BMDs taken from the Halifax newspaper. It has made a very big hole in my "Brick Wall" for Samuel Henry ORMEROD. For more years that I can remember I have hit the brick wall of his death. His wife Mary(ASQUITH) described herself as a widow in 1851 but I could find no evidence of his death. I even thought he might have been a bigamist at one stage - finding a criminal record which might fit. He was born in 1823 in Brighouse and I thought that he might just be found in this Halifax newspaper archive. I found an entry for 18th January 1851 and sent an email to Calderdale Library on Friday 29th April not expecting a reply until this coming week. On Saturday morning the reply was received - that Samuel Henry ORMEROD son of Mr ORMEROD of Brighouse had died October last in Talea Chili. It is thought that this is actually Talca Chile - but the next question is - "What was he doing in Chile?" His father was a Wine and Spirit Merchant in Brighouse and there is a connection to Talca being a Wine growing region - could this be the connection? No idea. I can't thank these transcribers enough for a piece of information I am sure I would never have found without this new resource they have made available and also Calderdale Library for such a prompt response. Happy Hunting for those still with brick walls. Pat Horton
