Hi folks Wondering where to start with this particular Weldrick mystery. Which churches should I look at to try and find John and Ann’s marriage and death? Plus John (their son’s) baptism? 1825 George son John and Ann Whildrake, labourer, Groves bapt Aug 14, Drypool parish church. There are no further Whildrake bapts there 1819-1844 though John and Ann did have a son John about 1829 in Hull. There are no Whildrake (or variations) marriages 1820-1825 in Drypool. George and John emigrated to Canada (hence knowing they were brothers and John gave his father’s name as John on marriage.) Both described themselves there as Methodist (George) and Primitive Methodist (John). It maybe the two lads were orphaned quite young – they seemed to be working on farms away from Hull according to what I can find. 1841 John was working on a farm at Swine for Peter Rodmell; 1851 he’s on a farm in Middleton, Yorkshire with Rachel Shipley who became his wife later that year. I have their marriage details and her birth and parents. George I can’t find in the 1841 census but he might be working at Holme on the Wold in 1844 (won an under 18s ploughing competition). He was in Canada by 1851; John went over early 1852. The only Whildrake on the 1841 census is Henry working at Melbourne Hall and he’s the son of Charles and Mary. John and Ann at Thorne (Sykehouse) and John in Howden and the George Wheldrah in Howden on the 1841 are known and not the ones I’m looking for. Any ideas? thanks very much Jane (wishing it would stop raining!!)
