I seem to have hit a brick wall. I am working on a side shoot of my Woodhead tree. Particularly Ambler Woodhead of New Zealand. This has been a interesting side study for me -the Ambler Woodhead's. So far except for this one in NZ, they are all descendants of Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler of Northowram. What I have- Ambler Woodhead is born in Huntslet, Yorkshire to Amos Woodhead and Susannah Shaw. Ambler goes on to go to New Zealand, live his life with wife and children and dies there. His father Amos Woodhead born 1839, Shelf, Yorkshire. Now that puts him right in the thick of my Woodhead's. His father is Joseph Woodhead a Collier as per marriage cert. That's as far as I can get with him. I can't really seem to find a birth for Amos with father Joseph Woodhead. My guess is Joseph is a son of Robert and Sarah Ambler that I have not found before or is the son of one of their earlier sons, my best guess would be William. I am not going to go into the William Woodhead's of Shelf, here. What I have is Robert Woodhead marries Sarah Ambler in 1774, they live at Whinney Royd, Northowram, Yorkshire. Children are: 1775 Hannah who marries Richard Bark 1776 William Woodhead ( I think he is William Woodhead who lives at Giles Hill, but I am just now looking into him)- I think Robert has a son, brother and father all called William Woodhead. 1779 Peter (my 4 x's great grandfather ) who marries Susannah Hemingway, he has a son Peter Ambler 1784 Priscilla who marries George Wharton 1787 Robert Jr, who marries Mary Ann Lister- he has a son Ambler born 1824, 1789 Ambler Woodhead who marries Ann Priestly and goes to Lancashire and becomes a brewer. 1791 Sam Woodhead who marries Margaret Thornton and farms in Lancashire 1794 Edmund who marries Elizabeth Clarkson, Edmund dies young. 1797 twins John who first marries Ann Flather and then marries his niece Sybil Wharton and goes to Australia 1797 the other twin, Tom who I think marries Sara Stocks and finally 1800 Henry Alfred Woodhead who dies in 1817 So you can see that there are a few gaps in the children, might be someone missing. I just found Robert Jr. when I got the Halifax marriages cd from the Calderdale Family History group. I was only able to place Ambler Woodhead the brewer in Lancashire because of his death notice, which listed him from Shelf. Ambler Woodheads that are mine. Ambler Woodhead born 1789 of Lancashire a brewer, son of Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler Ambler Woodhead born 1824, son of Robert Jr, son of Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler (he dies in a cart accident of his own making, going too fast) Ambler Woodhead born 1840, son of John (twin), son of Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler Ambler Woodhead born 1856, son of William Henry Woodhead, Peter, Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler Ambler Woodhead born 1897 and dies in 1918 in France, son of Peter (Elizabeth Riley), John Hemingway Woodhead (Elizabeth Blackburn, Peter (Susannah Hemingway) son of Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler Ambler Woodhead born 1872, son of George Alfred, Robert Jr., Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler Peter Ambler born 1812 who would go by Ambler, son of Peter, Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler, this Peter Ambler never married or had children. and there are a couple of Robert Amblers, Ambler Flather and Frank Ambler all descendant from Robert Woodhead and Sarah Ambler. I started this search on Ambler Woodhead of New Zealand, thinking he was one of mine, but I am stuck at his father Amos Woodhead and his father Joseph Woodhead.
