Hi Marg The only mention I can find of a Walton House Manchester is one on Harrison street but it appears to be a male hostel Do you have detail to enable finding of the place in the 1939 so I can see the location The wording Municipal Hostel suggests temporary accommodation run by the council Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 09/04/2016 20:56, Margaret Cambridge via wrote: > I know this isn't a Yorkshire question but wonder if anyone is familiar with or has any info about the above subject. > I found my grandmother's sister in Walton House Municipal Hostel in the 1939 Register. Hi Nivard, I guess it was a men's hostel as 99% of the people there are elderly men. A few women as unpaid domestics and my great aunt, Beatrice M. STEAD, b 15 March 1883, was a grocer's assistant. On studying the image further I find it was Men's Homes M/C Salford, Methodist Mission, 24 Hood Street, Manchester 4 and I have been able to find more information on line. Thanks for giving me that kick Nivard. Number one on my list of 'how to do better' is 'become more observant'....LOL Marg >From the Beautiful British Columbia Cariboo Region, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nivard Ovington via" <yorksgen@rootsweb.com> To: <yorksgen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 10, 2016 2:49 AM Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] Walton House Municipal Hostel, Manchester Hi Marg The only mention I can find of a Walton House Manchester is one on Harrison street but it appears to be a male hostel Do you have detail to enable finding of the place in the 1939 so I can see the location The wording Municipal Hostel suggests temporary accommodation run by the council Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 09/04/2016 20:56, Margaret Cambridge via wrote: > I found my grandmother's sister in Walton House Municipal Hostel in the > 1939 Register.
