    1. [YORKSGEN] Passage to Barbados

    3. Among the early records kept in Barbados is the following: "On 11 Feb 1695, on the ship New Adventure, commanded by Capt. Samuel Snipe, the will of Richard Lazenby was written, signed and witnessed." Since a number of members of the Snipe family most of whom lived in Yorkshire, wound up in Barbados, it seems likely that Capt. Samuel Snipe was a family member. I have always assumed that his ship was home-ported in London, since that was the largest seaport, and I know that a Samuel Snipe, b. in Apr 1643 was living in London. My question is, is it likely that passengers traveling to Barbados from Yorkshire would have traveled to London, or was there a closer port to find passage? Bill Snipes
