    3. Marg, Having looked at the 1861 census, it looks to me that John is 50 not 30. [John Stead death reg Wakefield Mar Q 1869 aged 58] John is on 1841 census, Wakefield aged 30, bookkeeper with Jane aged 30 and Joe Waterworth (8) and Thos Waterworth (5). Could these be children from Jane's previous marriage? Jane Waterworth married John Stead 21 Mar 1835 All Saints Wakefield by Licence Lin In 1861 I find John, 30. a bookkeeper, and Harriet living at Bond Street, Wakefield with their son John, 2. quest@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ..... > Ancestors in Yorkshire?http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/index.html; > www.ryedalefamilyhistory.org;www.wharfedalefhg.org.uk; > www.yorkshireparishregisters.com;www.yorkshireroots.org.uk; > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email toYORKSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >

The No.11 bus from York Railway Station stops within a few minutes walk Full details are on the website http://www.yorkshirefamilyhistoryfair.com If you are there, please stop at the Yorkshire Ancsestors stand and say hello. I will be there with Brenda Green (www.yorkshireancestors.com). Also, watch out for Jackie Depelle, the lady with the famous hat. Regards, Janice Wood

    1. [YORKSGEN] Unusual marriage records -WAS Re: BRIGGS Thomas
    2. Neil Houghton
    3. Another unusual one: I have also seen a marriage record where the name of the groom's mother was given as the name of the grooms father - and she was also listed as spinster when she was, in fact a widow. Interestingly, it was the second marriage for the groom in four years (his first wife having died within a year of the marriage) and the first marriage correctly gave the father's name but did not note that he was deceased (6 years earlier). I guess it all boils down to what info the parties decide to provide at the time ;o) Neil -- Neil Houghton Albany Western Australia on 22/6/12 12:50 AM, yorksgen-request@rootsweb.com at yorksgen-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 > Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2012 12:14:32 +0100 > From: Nivard Ovington <ovington1@sky.com> > Subject: Re: [YORKSGEN] BRIGGS Thomas > To: yorksgen@rootsweb.com > Message-ID: <4FE30218.7060702@sky.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > Hi Ann > > You have a fairly unusual document there then, despite seeing rather a > lot of marriage certificates, I have yet to see a marriage which lists > both parents so you have something rather unique there > > I wonder why they recorded both ? > > Has anyone else seen one I wonder? > > For the record I have not seen any reply to you that could be taken as > anything other than helpful, perhaps you just misread the tone which can > be difficult to convey sometimes in email > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > > On 21/06/2012 09:47, SBS Engineers Research wrote: >> Nivard and list >> >> Regarding my email where I stated Thomas Briggs marriage certificate >> listed only his father's name (Thomas Briggs - gardener) but both >> parents of his wife Maria Richards. 1. [YORKSGEN] memories and photos please of Tanshelf and Ex-Servicemen's Club
    2. Maureenpontefhs
    3. hello all, we are having another TANSHELF REUNION and looking for more memories and photographs. After last year's very successful reunion, where over 200 folk got together to watch the video that Jacky had done with photos that everyone had lent her. She was able to use the money donated for copies of this DVD to get a 2012 Calendar & 2012 Diary published. They are selling like hot cakes. Everyone that came (and ones that couldn't make it) wants another get together, so we are looking to use the photos to make another DVD, Calendar & Diary for 2013 So if any of you had family or friends that lived Down Tansh' (our pet name for Tanshelf) then we would like to hear from you. Lots of the people went for a drink in the Ex-Servicemen's Club on Front Street just up from Tanshelf on way into Pontefract town centre. Later Dunhill's took over this building, now the Liquorice Factory now belongs to Haribo. A new club was built around corner on Sessions House Yard after row of houses demolished. Later the Police Station was built next to Club. I lived there until 1971/72 when all houses demolished and lots, of my ancestors & family did too. So we are also looking for help with memories & photos of this Club and the houses that were on Sessions House Yard. My gran Annie HOLT was born at No. 11 in 1906 and I've never seen these houses nor found any on these web sites that have a old photo's: http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/search.htm http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/search.htm?term=tanshelf&type=Or&exclude=&include=All&resStart=0&resEnd=20&ao=&thumb= http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/photographs/index.asp?page=intro http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/photographs/index.asp?page=hitlist&mwsquery=%28%7BCategory%7D%3D%7Bphotographs%7D%29&mwsQueryTemplate=%5B%7Bcontrol%3DwordPrefix%7D%7Bindex%3DPhrase+search%7D%7Brelation%3D%3D%7D%5D&wordPrefix=Tanshelf&submit_button= thank you, Maureen & Jacky CLIFF, REYNOLDS, PONSONBY, HOLT, TONKS ............ See full details and Download your Booking Form http://yourfairladies.ning.com/events/annual-lecture-day?rsvpConfirm=1 We hope to see some more Yorksgen people attending this event, as some of our listers, visiting from overseas, would like to be able to meet up with some native Yorkshire friends. We may be able to arrange help with transport from Leeds Railway Station or from the York area. See also, on Jackie’s website, DNA and Family History, a day school with Chris Pomeroy, an expert in the field of DNA. This will be on Saturday 31st August, 10.30am – 3.30pm. I attended this day school earlier this year and found it most enlightening. I am planning to go again and take some friends. Regards, Janice Wood

    3. The IGI can be found at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/igi As far as I am aware (and I'm sure I will be corrected) , the IGI collections were gradually being transferred to the Familysearch site, and that eventually the IGI as we knew and loved it, will be no more. 3. Morning all.  I know what one of mine was doing... he was in court.  I found him yesterday in the British Newspapers Online.:- 13th July 1839 John CHANDLER, keeper of a beer-shop, at Holy-hill, in the township of Hipswell, was convicted of keeping his house open for the sale of beer, on Sunday, the 9th of June last, between the hours of eleven and twelve in the forenoon.....  Fined 30s and costs......Charles EARL and Mark BEARPARK (my chap) were convicted of having been found tipling at the above beer-shop.... Fined 3s4d each. Naughty boy (vbg)...I can almost hear my very Methodist Nanna turning in her grave. It seems too that Mark made a habit of this behaviour.  More research to do... ttfn Trish Ex Hull lass on central coast of NSW --- On Sun, 24/6/12, Mabel Jowsey <mjowsey@es.co.nz> wrote: From: Mabel Jowsey <mjowsey@es.co.nz> Subject: [YORKSGEN] 1834 Reference for Schooolmaster To: "Yorksgen Yorksgen" <Yorksgen@rootsweb.com> Received: Sunday, 24 June, 2012, 9:36 AM Reference for a Schoolmaster in 1834 “To all to whom these presents shall come. 3. Lin, I had another look at the 1861 census and I believe you are right that John is 50. That makes a big difference. I also found the marriage of John and Jane Waterworth in 1835. This gives me more to search as I have come across another possible marriage for John in 1851 to Mary Ann Phillips. John's father was Thomas, a tailor, so it's worth following. Thank you Lin. I appreciate you time. Marg >From the Beautiful British Columbia Cariboo Region, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lin" <dml5481@hotmail.com> To: "Margaret Cambridge" <talktomarg@shaw.ca> Marg, Having looked at the 1861 census, it looks to me that John is 50 not 30. Jane Waterworth married John Stead 21 Mar 1835 All Saints Wakefield by Licence Lin

The odd thing is, though, that I found it at the main general FamilySearch website but it does not appear at the IGI search site (check for yourself). I can only assume this is because it was an LDS submission and these seem to have been discarded, at least for the time being. A faded-out link for "Community contributed IGI" says "coming soon". I seem to have lost the old IGI search site which I much preferred. I had it bookmarked but now get a message saying "not found" when I try to call it up. I don't much care for the new site but I suppose I'll have to get used to it! -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
