    3. Hello all, This week we had the 154th Great Yorkshire Show. Usually it is a 3-day event, at the showground at Harrogate. Last year it was attended by an estimated 140,000 people. http://www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk Yesterday, for the first time in its history, the show was cancelled, at the end of the first day. This was due to unprecedented rainfall, before and during the show, making the ground unsafe to walk on and impossible to park cars on! Brenda Green and I were there with our Family History stand (www.yorkshireancestors.com) for our eighth visit, and we were very, very busy. There is certainly a lot of interest in our hobby. Jackie Depelle and Sara McGinlay were there too, helping us to answer questions. When the rain came down, Jackie gave us an impromptu family history class, to entertain about twelve people who were stranded on our stand during the downpour. We have been there today, packing up, and cleaning off the mud. We are sad for all the people who have lost a lot of income, due to the cancellation, but we are now looking forward to next year! It can’t happen again, can it? We had a really fun day yesterday, in spite of the weather, and I am reminded of the little rhyme my mother used to say: Whether the weather be cold Or whether the weather be hot Whatever the weather We’ll weather the weather Whether we like it or not! Now looking forward to Saturday, when our visitors start to arrive in York for Yorksgen 2012!!! Regards, Janice Wood

    3. Nice idea Gillian - Roy PLEASE can we have Eddie Waring? One of my junior school teachers, 'Charlie' Preston, was proud of the fact that he had taught Eddie.  It was the mid 1960s when I was in Mr Preston's class, and he must have been nearing retirement then, so as Eddie left school at 14 (in about 1924?) he must have been one of Mr Preston's first pupils. 3. Hi Anyone know who holds the baptism records of the Malton Methodist Circuit? They are not shown as being held by NYCRO. I suspect they may be in the hands (or safe) of the minister. Anyone trying to view them? Easy? Any charge? I was once quoted £50 pounds per hour to view the Ramsgill in Nidderdale Baptism Register - needless to say I am still waiting for it to be deposited at NYCRO. It is the original Register that is still in use from the 1840s. Thanks Andy Simpson Middlesbrough

    2. Yes do write to the Royal Archives if for no other reason to get an envelope back with their embossed stamp on it. Wrote some years ago for photographs of a dedication ceremony in 1885 Swanley, Kent performed by Anglican Minister from Leeds. His Leeds born son had donated the cost of the building £ 15,000. Present was the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). Unfortunately little of HRH's photographic collection survives nor was anything in the Illustrated London News. Annoyingly the Prince left Swanley for Leeds which is well covered in the ILN. Typical.
