    3. Marg Do you know Martha's mother's maiden name or if she had a sister called Hannah? The only likely candidate I can find for Thomas is age 2, living at Stockfield, Bradfield (the right area as all the places you mention are relatively local to each) with Jonathan Hawke , 64 shoemaker, Hannah Hawke, 48, 68; two of their own children, a journeyman shoemaker, and an apprentice. Having been in June Thomas would have been 2 at the time of the census. If this were my line I would be looking to link Martha to this family if I could by working on baptism/marriage records for Hannah and baptism for Martha as in my large Yorkshire family tree an illegitimate child was often with one set of grandparents or with an older sibling of the mother. Not only Thomas but also his grandparents in 1841. I was searching for them thinking that is possibly where Thomas was but I didn't find them.. I'm surprised I didn't find them under Balshaw. Good work Wendy...........much appreciated. However, the principle holds good - Thomas could be with grandparents, an aunt or uncle. It may be worth looking at her future husband's parents too -some cases the child has been giving the surname of the head of household be the enumerator. If you find some possibilities you then need to check them with other censuses and birth/baptism records to eliminate/confirm your Thomas. I have sent you a copy of a census page which I think may well be him if his grandparents are William and Betty WALSHAW - indexed on Ancestry as BALSHAW - in case it doesn't arrive the detail is Nun Royd, Heckmondwike William 65, woollen m Betty, 50 William, 25, woollen lab John, 15 Thomas, 3 hope this is helpful Wendy

    2. Geoff Blyth via
    3. Hi all I'm going through the will of Thomas Blyth, Innholder, of Easingwold written in 1696. There is an inventory from 18th September 1700 with a list of who Thomas Blyth owed money to. There isn't much information against each name ('for 2 days work' etc.) but it does fix the following people there at the time. If anyone is researching these names, here they are: Henry KITCHINGMAN, Thomas HUNTER, John LINSLEY, Mark SMITHSON, John HATTON, Thomas HICKOCKS, Robt FOUNTAINE, Josh INGS(?), John, Geo & Wm GIBSON, Wm CUNDALL, John CLOUGH, Mr WILSON of Thirsk, Tho POSKETT, Wm BLAND, John HOLDSTOCK, Leonard ROCKHILL(?), Ralph GOODRICK, Francis COATES The will of 1696 was witnessed by Chr DRIFFEILD (sic), Tho CUNDALL, Jona PINCKNEY Probate dealt with on 29th July 1701. Faith BLYTH and Robt HAYES both signed with a mark. If anyone has copies of 17th and 18th century wills for this area of Yorkshire mentioning the name BLYTH, I'd be pleased to hear from them. Thomas Blyth appears to have had an inn called 'The Lion' in Easingwold. I haven't been able to find out anything about it and it is not there now. Can anybody advise? Regards Geoff Blyth

    1. [YORKSGEN] FTM query
    2. Lin via
    3. I use FTM to record my data. This may have been covered before but I cannot find a solution online. How does everyone record data as 'unproven' in their files? I have a tentative ancestral line but would like to be able to mark it as 'unproven' in some way so that others following on from me don't take it as gospel and also so that I don't forget about it. Any suggestions (simple ones please!) Lin

    3. I use "Undocumented" or if I have a document but not sure about it I use "Speculative". 1. [YORKSGEN] Beeford, Yorks MIs
    2. Lin via
    3. I'm trying to untie the many Thomas CROOKs who were residing in Beeford and wonder if anyone who has the EYFHS booklet would have a peep and see if any are listed to see if it's worth buying the booklet. I've had a look on Genuki and can only see one photo taken by Colin Hinson, so am not holding out much hope of there being any but you never know. Many thanks Lin

    1. [YORKSGEN] Newspaper Snippets Update
    2. Tony Cheal via
    3. During the last six weeks I've added over 2,000 extractions from newspapers throughout the country ........ so it's worth a re-visit to see if one of "Your" names is available for extraction. https://sites.google.com/site/newspapersnippets/home You only have to send an email request to me and I'll send you the extract (usually within 24 hours). There are still several people who have received comprehensive material from me and have not acknowledged receipt. I would appreciate hearing from them ! 3. Some of the Glasshouses School admissions registers are in the archive room in the Nidderdale Museum. Opening hours etc are at http://www.nidderdalemuseum.com/ I found my grandmother there in 1870-78, but am not sure what other years they have.
