One of the characteristics of the human animal is that they/we automatically oppose change ... and then once the change has taken place we usually agree that "things are better now". IMHO :-) The way I read the listmaker's explanation it is a done deal. >subtopic: I agree that a general computer irritant is queries from >lazies, It is not ALWAYS lazy, sometimes we just don't know enough to ask a good question, or our insecurities require us to reach out for a warm, supporting hand. I am always amazed at the patience of those who do computer support for others. For 8 years I worked as an "Instructional Computer Consultant" for a large school board, part of a team of 5, and we could overhear the "guy in the next cubicle" as he explained once again how a certain procedure could be done on the computer. Then he would hang up the phone, and say under his breath, just loud enough for the rest of us to hear, "Why don't you read the _____ manual?" We would all have a good laugh and when the phone rang again he was back up, professional as ever.! At least the 5 of us had a safe place to dump our frustrations - on each other, in private. >but for the sake of people who are jumping online for the first >time because they have just discovered genealogy, is there a site which >could be referenced, Here is a list of a few good genealogy sites, most of them have a beginner's section, plus lots of links to other good sites: http://www.onlinegenealogy.com http://www.genealogy.org/~ngs (National Genealogy Society) http://www.genealogy.org (Mike's site - the Yoder homepage's system admin) http://www.genealogy.org/~yoder (All 3 of these are on the same computer) http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/index.html http://www.ancestory.com ******************************************************************** Researching: Kauffman, Stalter, Yoder, Swartzendruber, Stauffer, Roth Don Kauffman --------------- dkauffma@planet.eon.net Kauffman Homepage ---------- http://www.genealogy.org/~kauffman ********************************************************************* ==== YODER Mailing List ==== Wondering about other genealogy lists?
