Simple question - is AAMG the "correct" generally accepted abbreviation for this work, or do we have to say "Gingerich and Kreider". On page xxix-xxxiv of "G&K" can be found a long list of cited sources with 3 or 4 letter abbrevs. This sets a standard which I find useful when documenting my feeble attempts at being a researcher, but they don't specify what is the correct short form of their own work. I suspect AAMG is the best abbreviation to use and is rapidly becoming a classic, like DJH and DBH, etc. A "classic" in the Kauffman line is KCL (sometimes CFK) for Charles Fahs Kauffman, "A Genealogy and History of the Kauffman-Coffman Families in North America", 1940. There are researchers who have used this work and added to the info. in their own works. One of the recent ones is: Davis, Richard Warren, "Emigrants, Refugees and Prisoners, (An Aid to Mennonite Family Research), Vol 1" 1995 - P.O. Box 50182, Provo, Utah 84605. And I just got a letter this week from Davis telling me that Vol 2 is now ready ($50) One really good book for those whose lines go into Iowa is: Lind, Katie Yoder, "From Hazelbrush to Cornfields, The First Hundred Years of the Amish-Mennonites in Johnson, Washington, and Iowa Counties, 1846-1946", copyright 1994. Available from the "Menn. Historical Society of Iowa", Kalona, IA 52247. Includes genealogies and stories of the Amish and Mennonites who moved into Iowa. Finally, since I seem to be advertising for people, if you want a source of Amish, Amish-Mennonite, and other genealogy books write to the following and ask for a catalog: Masthof Bookstore Route1, Box 20, Mill Road Morgantown, PA 19543-9701 Telephone: (610) 286-0258 email: masthof@ptdprolog.net These are the people that produce the magazine "Mennonite Family History". If your lines go back into Mennonite and Amish families their catalog will have you drooling. Perhaps if you have someone in your family who "has to buy you a Christmas present", and they have little money you could suggest they get you one of these catalogs. It says $3.00 on the cover, but I got mine for free. You will enjoy it, but be warned, it'll cost you!! <G> I would be interested in hearing about other's best sources. Maybe the next project for Chris to start is "Top 10 books to own if doing genealogy research in Yoder related families". Any takers??? ==== YODER Mailing List ==== Have you visited the YODER NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES lately? http://www.genealogy.org/~yoder/
