It occured to me today, while reading the Roll Call responses that most of us are working on lines that are interconnected, at least in the early generations. This led to - since the respondees are using a computer the chances are good that they have and use a genealogy software program, and if they are, it likely has the capability of creating and receiving GEDCOM files. And - if they are using a genealogy program then a lot of us are likely doing data entry of the same people. So - is there anyone out there in Yoderland who would like to exchange GEDCOM files of our common, or not so common ancestors? I operate from a Macintosh, using REUNION v5.0.2. Editor Chris sent me a couple of GEDCOMs which were made in Family Tree Maker in Windows. They come into REUNION with no trouble, after all a GEDCOM is a gedcom. One of these has the complete line of Hooleys, which I didn't have so I am smiling :-) Chris sent them as a file attachment to an email message, took a while to download the one with 8909 names, (about 1 MB and 20 minutes at 14.4) but it works. I would be happy to exchange my research for yours. My only stipulation is that you are not allowed to publish on the WWW information about the present, living generations. There is still potential for problems if personal info is put up for living people (and I'm not even paranoid)! You may find that you don't like my work, but that's ok, just say "thanks" and trash it <G> Looking forward to your thoughts on this. Don

Simple question - is AAMG the "correct" generally accepted abbreviation for this work, or do we have to say "Gingerich and Kreider". And I just got a letter this week from Davis telling me that Vol 2 is now ready ($50) One really good book for those whose lines go into Iowa is: Lind, Katie Yoder, "From Hazelbrush to Cornfields, The First Hundred Years of the Amish-Mennonites in Johnson, Washington, and Iowa Counties, 1846-1946", copyright 1994. Available from the "Menn. Historical Society of Iowa", Kalona, IA 52247. Includes genealogies and stories of the Amish and Mennonites who moved into Iowa. This book was published in 1986 by Pequea Publishers, Gordonville PA. I bought my copy for $60.00 in 1992 at the Gospel Book Store in Berlin OH. It is an extensive book that includes most of the Amish immigrants to this country and their descendants that were Amish up to about 1850. The info my branch of the family had showed Christian Plank as being married to a Barbara Yoder who was the daughter of a Christian Yoder (YR12?). Perhaps they have that Christian confused with his son Christian (YR122) who married a Barbara HERTZLER (1776-1846). Our Barbara's birthdate is shown as 1776 in our genealogies, which may explain some of this confusion. If anybody "out there" has any clues, I'd love to hear from you!
