Thokey I was born in Junction City, KS while my father was stationed at nearby Ft. Riley during WWII. When I was 4 months old, Dad was discharged, and we moved to North Canton, Stark County,OH. where I grew up. Most of Mother and Dad's families lived in North Canton. In fact, many of them still do. After college I spent 10 months in Cape Coral, FL teaching 5th grade. I then moved back to Ohio. After I, married Larry Thokey, we lived in Streetsboro, OH. In 1978, we moved to Trotwood, OH where we now live. Mother still speaks fondly of her grandfather ( my g-grandfather) Zachariah H. Yoder. He was a pastor in the Church of God. She tells about how his family moved from place to place as he received a call from various churches. My grandmother, Rose Yoder Fisher, was born in Wadsworth, OH. From the time my mother was quite young until she was about 13 years old, her family lived in Rising Sun, OH. G-Grandpa Yoder was pastor of the Church of God in Rising Sun. I hope this short, short history allows everyone who reads it to become better acquainted with this line of the family. Cheryl L. 3. After seeing multiple lines of Yoder descent, I feel somewhat "YODERly-challenged". I have only one line of descent, eight generations from Conrad Yoder in Carolina: Conrad Yoder (died April 1790) married Christina Klein (1742-about 1771) John Yoder, Sr. (1764-1836) married Mary Barbara Reib ( 1763-1842) John Yoder, Jr. (1795-1870) married Sarah Whitener (Weidner) (1793-1869) Andrew Yoder (1836-1896) married Catherine Hahn (1838-1885) Julia Ann Yoder (1858-1912) married (Reuben Propst (1855-1942) Anna Catharine Propst (1886-1980) married Perry Lafayette Yount (1883-1966) Hubert Yount (1906- ) married Lora Morrison (1907-1997) Ray Yount (me) (1934- ) married Agnes Bell (1937- ). All the above lived in what is now Catawba County in the North Carolina Piedmont until we moved to Western Maryland 35 years ago. We are in La Vale, 25 miles east of Grantsville, MD where the Yoder House is being built. Hope to see some of you there for the second annual meeting on Saturday, November 9. ==== YODER Mailing List ==== Have you visited the YODER NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES lately? http://www.genealogy.org/~yoder/

A little side note: after we married, my wife and I compared families. My mother was an only child and my father had one brother who never had children so I have no first cousins. (zip, zero, nada). She, on the other hand, has over 50 first cousins. Is there any one out there also connected to the DelaGrange family? I am trying to build info on that side as well. Willard Yoder died in Tillman, OK in 1913 and had 4 daughters. My grandfather, Thomas Elbert Graves, had a sister named Nettie Jane Graves. She married Johnie Yoder, a half-brother to my grandmother, Annie Yoder. I'm interested in meeting all my cousins and would love to exchange information. I'm also hoping we can get together family photos, identify them, and make copies for those interested. I recently purchased a digital camera and am trying to copy all the photos I have borrowed from my cousins so they can be downloaded or scanned into my computer. I have also run across a postcard written to my great-grandfather by someone? concerning his twin brother, Willard. Most of my closest Yoder cousins live in the New Mexico, Texas & Oklahoma area, near where I was born. I came to Atlanta, Georgia to attend school, remarried, and never left. Good luck to all my cousins, and I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks, Lane

Somehow I did not get the original message from Chris, but I think I get the idea. Here is my line. Keith Yoder (key4511@aol.com). 1. YB--Hans Yoder of Great Swamp--ca. 1680 --- 1753 2. YB1--John Yoder-- d. 1782 3. YB13--Abraham Yoder -- 1747 - 1820 4. YB137--Peter Yoder -- 1786 - 1861 5. YB1378--Henry B. Yoder -- 1829 - 1899 6. YB13781--Peter B. Yoder -- 1855 - 1943 7. YB137812--David A. Yoder -- 1883 - 1980 8. YB1378122--Lowell L. Yoder -- 1912 - 1989 9. YB13781221--Keith E. Yoder -- 1936 - Dear Cousins, Since others are sending additional personal info I will re-send the above with a few additonal comments. Hans Yoder of Great Swamp which is in northern Bucks Co. near Quakertown, PA, was the progenitor of the Mennonite line. I notice most of the roll call replies are from the Amish-Mennonite lines and I am wondering if there any others out there descending from my line. My family migrated westward via eastern Ohio,-- Columbiana, Mahoning county areas where many "old" Mennonites went. Midway, Leetonia, and others were several of the congregations. No. 4 above (YB137) migrated there as well as one of his brothers and many of their descendants still live in that area. Some of their cousins went to the Wadsworth OH area and I suspect most of those were "new" Mennonites, later known as General Conference Mennonites. The Yothers branch (as reported in Richard Yothers book) and others remained in PA and descendants are still living there. I would be interested in learning more about these branches of the family. My gr.-gr.- grandfather, Henry B. Yoder (YB1378) migrated to Elkhart Co. IN with an abortive detour ( 1854-55) in Clay Co. IN (where his son Peter B. was born) sometime around 1865. There were also cousins from Ohio who had come to Indiana, several who had married into the Holdeman family. They settled near Wakarusa, IN not far from where the Holdeman Mennonite church was eventually located. Henry B.'s grandson, D.A. Yoder (my grandfather) was a Mennonite bishop in norhern Indiana for many years (a record # for the Mennonite church according to John C. Wenger). He lived to age 97 and was ordained at a very young age. My interests in Yoder genealogy include learning more about the various branches of the "Mennonite" line as well as hoping that sometime it can be established how our ancestor links with the other Yoder immigrants. The latest YNL mentioned the possibility that a National Reunion might be sponsored by the Yothers family of Bucks/Lehigh Co. in 1999. I would heartily endorse this idea and hope it comes to pass. This Yoder Roll Call has been great fun! Sincerely, Keith

    3. Where am I located? I'm living near the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, Utah, where I moved 10 years ago from Maryland. I'm a native of Loogootee, Indiana. Incidentally, I am Deaf, and I know there are many deaf Yoders out there.... I'm researching my g-g-grandfather, Jacob Yoder who married 1) Nancy M. Yount on 14 Feb 1872 2) Barbara Keller 6 Sept 1884 (both in Daviess Co, IN), and had the following children: Grover C. Yoder and Mary AngelineYoder Mattingly of Martin Co, IN; and Effie Yoder Guess, last known in Illinois. My maternal g-grandmother, Mary Angeline Yoder b. 16 July 1875 d. 6 april 1952 in Daviess Co, IN, buried St. John's Cemetery, Loogootee, Martin Co, IN. On 23 Nov 1890 at the age of 15, she was married to 50 yr old John Hilary Mattingly b.@1840, d. 3 June 1909, Daviess Co, IN, buried, St. Peter's Cemetery, Mongomery Co, IN (no stone). Later married St. Michael's Catholic Church, DAviess Co, IN 13 June 1892. John Hilary was the son of Sylvester Mattingly and Mary Ellen Smith. (John Hilary married first to Elizabeth Bellwood). Children of John and Mary Angeline: Minnie Agnes b. 1891 m. Clyde A. Taylor; Charles Joseph b 1894 m. Maude Fenters; William Stanslaus b. 1897 m. Dorothy?; Bridget Nancy, b. 11 Aug 1899 Daviess Co, IN, D 4 Dec 1970 DuBois Co, IN, buried St. John's Cemetery, Loogootee, Martin Co, IN; married Harry Joseph Bowling 2 Dec 1919 (he is still living!) Bridget (Bea) and Harry had 6 children, including my mother, Dorothy Agnes Bowling Hortie b. 13 Nov 1932. Daviess County Marriage records show that Jacob m. Nancy Yount; current Yoder records list her as Nancy Mount. But the death certificate of Mary Angeline Yoder states that her mother's name was Angeline Yount. Chris and Rachel brainstormed and came up with the possibility that my g- grandfather is a "missing" Yoder line: Jacob b @1852 Holmes Co, OH was the son of Jonathon S. Yoder (YR23385) res. 1850 in Holmes Co, OH and 1860 in LaGrange Co, IN and Mary Plank (PK4312) b. 19 Sept 1823 in Holmes Co, OH; d 2 July 1907 (I have a funeral card for her) Gypsun, Saline Co, KS at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Susan (Hans) Peterson. Jonathon S. Yoder is the son of Solomon Yoder b. 5 Mar 1793 in Somerset Co, PA and Elizabeth Gindlesperger b. @1795 Somerset Co, PA. Anyone out there on the same tracks as I am? Any errors, please, please tell me! Many thanks to 'our' wonderful and dedicated historians Chris Yoder and Rachel Kreider. Nice to meet you all! Shirley Platt

On my Father's side of the family, I am able to trace my descent from DJH9047 Ulrich Hohsteter who was a soldier who fought under General Braddock before the Revolutionary war. I have not been able to find much information about him though. His descendants did intermarry with some of Jacob's descendants, so there is some speculation that he may be related to Jacob. There were also a few other Hochstetler immigrants, but none left the progency that Jacob did. We are greatly indebted to Harvey's books for our knowledge of our family. However, there are still a few mysteries even about Harvey. Did he indeed have children? He lists several children for himself in the book, but there is no documentary evidence of him ever having children. I have done some census research on him, and the census never shows any children.
