Cousins, In going through my database, I noticed a reference to William Yelton (this is the Rev. soldier) in the 1820 Census in Pendleton Co, KY. I had written that the census was hard to read because some entries were crossed out. So I decided to look on ancestry.com, since I knew that they had enhanced the images. I thought it might be easier to read. What I found was interesting. William Yelton appears immediately before Elizabeth Yelton. Every entry that is crossed out in William's household corresponds to an entry in Elizabeth's household. Evidently the census taker thought this was a single household, but realized that he had made a mistake. That's an argument for William & Elizabeth being somehow related. I suspect she's a widowed daughter-in-law, since she's listed as the head of her household. She's got 2 boys and 1 girl under the age of 10, and she herself is between 16 and 26. So who is Elizabeth? William's son James (father of John H.) had a wife Elizabeth, but I think she's too old to be the Elizabeth in the 1820 Census. Elizabeth the wife of James would have been (according to her age in the 1830 & 1840 Census) between 40 and 50 in 1820 (although at the lower end of that range, I think). Plus, James was still living then and she wouldn't have been head of household. The other possibility is the widow of William Yelton, Jr. , whose name we don't know. William, Jr. died sometime before 1834, leaving four children (Alexander, William, John, & Cynthiana). The difficulty with this choice is that there are only 3 children listed in the census and we know from records related to William Sr. that these four were still living in 1834. Do I hear any other nominations from the floor? Cheryl
