    3. I have some information about where our Yelton ancestors lived, although I can't really say at this time why they moved when and where they did. As I think you all know, our knowledge of the family begins in Stafford County, VA. Charles Yelton lived at one time in Loudon Co, VA but as far as I know he and his children moved directly from Virginia to Kentucky. James & William followed a different path. They both lived in Amherst Co, VA and then (I believe) in Iredell Co, NC. James said in his pension application that he had lived in Iredell. I don't know for a fact that William did, but his son Robert apparently did, as he married a woman, Elizabeth Kersey, who was from Iredell County. James, as an elderly man (about 70), then moved on to Kentucky near his brothers. However, at least two of his sons stayed in North Carolina. John eventually settled in Rutherford Co, NC. The Yeltons in Mitchell Co & Rutherford Co are John's descendants. Charles H. Yelton lived in Ashe Co, NC for a while, then moved to Overton Co, TN. I believe the Madison Co Yeltons are descendants of Charles through his oldest son William who married Edy. Most Yeltons in TN are Charles' descendants. There are other descendants of Charles in North Carolina (primarily Ashe or Watauga Co), but their name isn't Yelton. They are descendants of Charles' son Barnet. Barnet's two sons who survived the Civil War eventually settled in Missouri, but Barnet's daughters, as far as I know, all married & raised families in NC. Cheryl

    3. James did live in Iredell, NC, at least for a while because his son, John H. Yelton (my g-g-g grandfather) was born there in 1809. I also believe that he lived there for several years before going to Pendleton Co., KY.
