This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XYXBAEB/1.2.5.50 Message Board Post: Dear Gina, My great-great grandfather was (1) Charles Yelton, of whom I have no information. His son, (2)Charles Thomas Yelton (married Missouri Frances Smith), was born 1854, died 1885 and is buried in Audrain County, Missouri. Charles Thomas' son (3) George Ferdinand Yelton was born in Fulmouth, Kentucky (Pendleton County). This indicates that my Yelton line is the same one I see with many other names in Pendleton. We probably do connect, but my information is limited. Do you have any information to share on these Yelton's?

Hi Everyone, I've lost contact information on Sherrie Powers, who was looking for information on Foster Munday Yelton who died in Texas in 1955. Debbie P. found some great info for her and now we can't seem to contact her. My old address for her was sdpowers@aeneas.net and it is no longer a valid one. Does anyone on the list have a more recent address for her? Thanks for your help, Iris dmreily@compuserve.com ~Y~E~L~T~O~N~anywhere~anytime~
Hi Kathy, I think this is the site you are looking for: http://www.hamrick.com/names/ You enter the surname you are looking for and the Year, 1990, 1920, 1880, 1850. I just checked it for Yelton, and oddly, it said there were none in their database for 1850, 1880 or 1920. I'm sure I got them before. Any suggestions anyone? Hope this is the one you were thinking about. Iris
Can any one give me the address to the web site that you can find where the most Yeltons were located in a certain time frame -1860 -1880- 1900??? in the USA. It was put on here a while back but must of deleted it. Thanks Kathy
Hi Everyone, I'm not sure yet where in the UK our ancestors came from but this quote from Robert Louis Stevenson is really great for genealogy buffs. Iris "For that is the mark of the Scot of all classes: that he stands in an attitude towards the past unthinkable to Englishmen, and remembers and cherishes the memory of his forebears, good or bad; and there burns alive in him a sense of identity with the dead even to the twentieth generation." Hi Everyone, I just received the attachment from our Cousin Don Yelton and needed to let you know of an error in the paragraph below. Please note the change in the area between the rows of *********. This is the kind of thing that once published is very difficult to squash, but we must try. The writer had most all of the facts right, they just skipped the generation of John & Mary Polly Deck Yelton and that of James Yelton & Mary (?). Otherwise this is great information. Thank you Don. If you pass this on to others, please pass on the correction as well. If any one else wants a copy of the whole article, either Don or I will be glad to send it to you as an attachment. We can't send an attachment through the list so we would send it to your personal e-mail address. There are some nice pictures with the articles too. Iris Excerpt from original message-------------------------------------------------------- from "The Heritage of Rutherford Co., " (NC975.691 H542), family 687: JOHN LANDRUM AND FI MELINDA ROBERTSON YELTON "John Landrum Yelton Sr. (2-18-1847 - 5-1-1929), a Civil War soldier, was the son of Jacob Yelton Sr. (7-22-1812- 3-12-1900) and Susanne Davis Yelton (12-28-1816- 2- y 15-1901), married March 14, 1836, and both buried in Cedar Grove Methodist Church cemtery, Bostic. He was the grandson of James Yelton Jr. and Isabelle Hinson, and great grandson of James Yelton Sr. who died in 1783 and was buried in Stafford County, Virginia." ************************************************************************************** Actually, John Landrum Yelton, Sr.'s ancestors should look like this: John Landrum Yelton(1847-1929) & Melinda Robertson > Jacob Yelton(1811-1900) & Susanna Davis Father > John Yelton(1776-1844 & Mary Polly Deck Grandfather > James Yelton(1749-1842) & Mary (?) G-Grandfather (Rev. War Pensioner, KY) >James Yelton(1720-1783) & Isabell Hinson GG-Grandfather So, the last sentence of the paragraph above should read: He was the grandson of John & Mary Polly Deck Yelton, the great-grandson of James & Mary (?) Yelton,(this is the James who was the Rev. War Pensioner, listed in 1850 KY Census as 92 years old) and the great-great grandson of James & Isabell Hinson Yelton. This is the James who died about 1783. ****************************************************************************************
Did the articles from the Rutherford County book come through? I had one email saying it didn't. I don't think the pictures were sent and will send them to those who ask. There are two JPG files of three Yelton family pictures that accompanied the articles. Don Yelton
Dear cousins - experienced with genealogy! I have a copy of "The Heritage of Rutherford County, NC" and was doing some reading tonight when I came accross some Yelton info. I assume that serious genealogists like to have sources to quote so I thought I would offer this. There is about a page and a half of names including places, dates, etc. For example, it begins: "The family of Jacob Dexter Yelton, Sr. dates back to the 1700's in Rutherford County. Jacob's great-grandfather, James Yelton, died in 1783 and is buried in Stafford County ----". Another name is John Landrum Yelton, 1847, son of Jacob Yelton. I suppose you all have this info, but if anyone is interested I can scan it or fax the pages. Don Yelton
Hi Everyone, I know you will all appreciate this great newspaper article about one of our Cousins. Iris ----- Original Message ----- From: Laura Graham <falcon@execpc.com> To: <dmreily@compuserve.com> Sent: Monday, 06 August, 2001 22:00 PM Subject: A nice newspaper article including Stasia Hi Iris, I thought you might like to read this recent newspaper article that included Stasia. Please forward it to the Yelton email group for me. Thanks, Laura Graham *************************************** The Janesville Gazette Friday, August 3, 2001 Path to speaking: Student helps other find hidden voices By Carla McCann, Gazette Staff Photo caption - Based on his own struggles, UW-Whitewater student Jon Feucht led a camp that was designed to help people with severe speech disabilities. WHITEWATER, WI - Jon Feucht grew up believing his career choices would be very limited. By the time he started UW - Whitewater, he was resigned to spending his life working at a job he had little interest in doing. "It's like you grow up with a certain set of ideas," Feucht said. "Like, all right, I can't talk, so I should work at a computer job." Then about four years ago, the psychology student found a way to unlock the voice trapped within his body. "I can't describe the feeling," said Feucht, 24. "It was like whoa, now I can do anything." His plans changed when he bought a Pathfinder augmentative communication device manufactured by the Prentke Romich Corp. The device and other similar ones speak words represented as symbols on a keyboard that can be accessed by touching, through infrared head pointing or with switch-activated scanning. The Pathfinder has become Feucht's most trusted friend - one that he never leaves home without. Now, Feucht shares his knowledge of augmentative communication devices and joy in finally having a voice with youths at a week-long camp at UW-Whitewater. Not only was Feucht the teacher, he also was the founder of the first Authentic Voice Camp Designed to help young people with severe speech disabilities learn how to effectively augment their speech with communication devices. "Our goal was to teach these young people how to use their devices to get ahead in life," Feucht said by pressing words and phrases programmed in his keyboard. "I like to say this camp is committed to providing a valuable experience for augmentative communication users from a user." Feucht was born with cerebral palsy. The condition affected his ability to speak and muscles, including those in his arms and legs, and he uses a wheelchair for mobility. But he has come a long way during the five years he has attended the university. "When I came to college, I was not ready to be here," Feucht said. "I didn' t have a communication device. I communicated with a manual word board that people had to read as I pointed to the words." It was very time consuming, he added. Feucht hasn't forgotten how difficult it was without a voice to interact and develop friendships with other students. He hopes the camp will become an annual event that will help make the future brighter for many others. "I'm a person who always looks toward the future and how I can make things better," Feucht said. He's already done that for Anastasia Wilson. The 18-year-old Oconomowoc teen, who also was born with cerebral palsy, was one of the six people who attended the camp. "She is mentally aware but trapped in a body that doesn't work as well as we'd like," said her mother, Laura Graham. "One thing we've struggled with is finding peers (for Anastasia). It's hard for people to see past a wheelchair." But that wasn't the case at camp, where Anastasia spent time with other young people with similar challenges, Graham said. "She always has been shy about talking in front of other people," Graham said. But since attending the camp, Anastasia appears more willing to meet and talk with people through her communication device, Graham said. Connie Wiersma, rehabilitation technology specialist with UW-Whitewater's Disabled Student Services, also was pleased wit the results of Feucht's first camp. "It was great opportunity for kids having Jon run the camp and work with them," Wiersma said. "These kids probably are the only ones in their schools who use communication devices." One of the camp's goals was to teach students how to live their dreams. Anastasia was a quick learner. She left with a newfound confidence, knowledge that she can take charge of her life, has career choices and can drive her wheelchair while talking with her augmentative communication device, Graham said. "She felt like she was at home there," Graham said. "She hasn't stopped smiling since we got home."

Often, Yelton has been seen as Yetton, Yeton, Yalton, and a couple of others. That's the good thing about it starting with a Y - there aren't many Y listings as a rule. Also, I noticed in the wills you mentioned in your previous message, it may have been possible that Taylor could have been tacked onto the name. I know they meant tailor - as in profession - but that's not how they spelled it in those wills. Right? Anyway, let me know how your research goes. I'd sure rather be doing that than going through old boxes of (mostly) junk. Happy Hunting, Iris
Hi Connie, Can you check the information again on the Charles who died 22 Feb 1749/50? That is the date of death for Charles Hinson, brother of Edmund. He left his estate to Edmund after his wife Joyce's death as they had no children. Charles Yelton, b. 1 Nov 1746 died in KY 2 Jul 1817 and there is a record that shows he served in the Rev. War. Concerning James Yelton b. abt 1720 m. Isabel Hinson. I have a notation: The last reference is in the Stafford Co., VA 1780-1786 Deed and Will Book. It shows he has died for there is his Inventory totaling twenty five pounds, five shillings and four pence. Recorded in 1784. I'm not sure who the Mary Hinson was that died in 1747 at John Honey's. I do know there is an Ellis - Honey connection as well as a later Yelton - Honey connection so it is entirely possible that they were neighbors in VA. It sure is fun to find this kind of information isn't it. Be careful, this BUG is highly contagious. It truly doesn't matter how many people have seen the information before you. It is still quite a thrill to find isn't it? Let me know what you think about Charles death? Also, if you want any additional information on any one in particular, I'll be glad to look and see if I can be of help. Iris dmreily@compuserve.com
I checked my own records closely and found that I have Edmond Hinson as Isabel's father. Found in the Stafford Co., VA Taxtables 1723-1790 in the Quitrent Roll Northern Neck Land Grant and Survey. Edmond Hinson - 150 acres in 1729 Accotinck Creek - water source/ geographical feature. Hinson was the grantee of the land.
In doing some research today at the Fairfax Co., VA Library in their genealogy area I came across information that the rest of you probably already have but I found interesting because I found it myself. In the Overwharton Parish Register 1720-1760 by William Boogher I found A record of James Isabella Hinson's wedding date of Nov. 13, 1743. And also a listing of the birth of some of their children: Charles b. Nov. l, 1746 d. Feb 22, 1750 (separate entries but gather it is the same Charles), James - July 15, 1749, Mary - Apr. 18, 1752, Ann - July 26, 1755. I also found James Yelton referred to in Will Abstracts of Stafford Co., VA 1729 - 1748. On page 119 he was referred as "1744 paid James Yelton Taylor for making a coat and pair of breeches." On p. 130 William Brent to Peter Hedgeman EXR. To my expenses on Kent Island ... "To Yelton's acct. for Taylor's work done, ... names Negros bot of Mr. Geo Brent paid James Yelton for making up DO in a suit." Is Isabel Hinson's father's name Edmond Hinson? He died Nov. 18, 1742 a Mary Hinson died March 16, 1747 at John Honey's. Okay, just want you to know that I'm doing some research. Thanks for any assistance you can give me. Connie
My great grandfather was John Carlton Blair. His third marriage ( to Sarah Shearer) produced the following children: Waightstill Avery, Louesa, and John Carlton, Jr. which is the line I descend from. John Carlton, Sr. and Sarah Shearer Blair are both buried in the Blues Hill Cemetery in Warren County, TN. We only found out a few years ago about his earlier marriages to Julia Conley and Lidia Ann Yelton and the children born to those unions. In 1998, my husband and I traveled to NC and met descendents of the earlier marriages. The descendents of the second marriage to Ms. Yelton were living in the Mountain City, TN area which is about 45 minutes from the Boone/Blowing Rock area. If you are connected through the second marriage, I would be pleased to share information with you at sbseroberts@charter.net.
