    1. [YELTON] Yeltons at Ellis Island
    2. Iris F Reily
    3. Hi Everyone, Maybe you can help identify this family: I found these on the Ellis Island Website: These appear to be a family: Alexander Yelton, from Edinburgh, Sct, UK, Married, age 33 Nellie Yelton, also from Edinburgh Married, age 28 John Yelton, from Edinburgh, age 10 months all three arrived 16 Sept 1907 on the ship Columbia which departed from Glasgow, Scotland, UK Nellie appears to have made a trip back to Scotland/Great Britian and returned to the us on 19 Mar 1911 age 30 on the Columbia, again departing from Glasgow. Nellie next lists Peekskill, NY as home and comes through Ellis Island again on 20 Apr 1922, age 42, on the Ft. Victoria, departing Hamilton, Bermuda In addition, these two boys arrived on 2 Jul 1920 on the Ship Olympic out of Southhampton, Southhamptonshire, England Alexander Yelton, from Bonhill Scotland, age 10 John Phillip Yelton, from Bonhill Scotland, age 13 There were duplicate listings of some of the above - I'm not sure why. Let me know if you can help with this "mystery" Yelton family. Iris

    3. Cousins, Ancestry.com has finally posted the 1910 Census for Rutherford Co, NC and I'm already finding new puzzles and questions. In E.D. #125 (Camp Creek Township) appears the family of Brison W. Hutchins (age 35) and his wife Minnie (age 28) and several of their children. Also in the household are Sam F. Yelton (age 15?) and Columbus M.(?) Yelton (age 11), identified as nephews of Brison Hutchins. I know there are lots of Yelton/Hutchins connections, but this one is new to me. Can anyone identify these folks? Cheryl

    3. Cousins, I have actually begun revising the website. So that I can test and revise it a bit at a time, I've set up a temporary website at http://home.att.net/~yeltonweb/. As I add files for various families, I'll announce them here, so you can check for errors or needed additions. The search engine will not work on the temporary site. In case anyone finds the temporary site by accident, I've included a link to the main site. What's there now are 3 generations, beginning with James & Isabel. There are also pages for the descendants of Alexander Yelton & Vashti Williams and Cynthiana Yelton & William Crofford (Crawford).

    3. Hi Everyone, What just came through to the list (the last two messages) were called "gatewayed" messages that originated on the Yelton Message Board. If you want to go to read ALL of the messages, go to: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.yelton If you just want to answer the message that was sent to the LIST, you use the URL that is in the message and it will take you to that particular message. Once there, you can reply to that message if you wish. The "Gateway" to the list can be turned off if you all don't want the messages from the message boards to get through to the lists. I am the administrator for both the List and the Board so let me know what you think. Eventually, there will be changes to what gets sent to the list. Hopefully, a "reply here" message will be added, for instance. I think the Boards are just another way for "cousins" to meet "cousins". If you all have any suggestions please don't hesitate to let me know, I'll be glad to pass them on to RootsWeb/Ancestry. They recently merged their message boards and still have a way to go for them to be user friendly. Hope you all had a great Summer and are looking forward to Fall, Iris

    2. Iris F Reily
    3. Dear YeltonE, I'll be glad to help you with your Yelton information. Please send whatever you would like to add to the list just as you did this message below. I'll see that it gets added to the database and Cheryl will see that it gets on to the Website when she does the updates. When you send the information it would be helpful if you would provide your oldest known ancestor with date of birth and place if you have the information. Then you can start with yourself and/or your children and go backwards toward the oldest known person. If part of your information is already on the website, then you can identify where you would like to begin adding to what is already there. We will not put the dates of anyone that is still living on the website, but we can put them in the database in our own computers for future identification purposes. We do this to protect their privacy. Thanks for contacting the Yelton-e-mail list, we're looking forward to hearing from you again soon. Iris F. 1. [YELTON] Re: HELP Fw: Yeltons/Caldwell
    2. Cheryl Chasin
    3. I'm not sure how much help I can be, but here's what I've got. The 1830 Census for Campbell County, KY, p. 255, shows Phillip Yelton (age 30-40) as head of a household consisting of a female age 20-30, a male age 10-15 (no idea who this is), and 2 females under 5. John Phillip Yelton (s/o John Yelton & Anna Lambert) m. 1st Harriet Tull on 23 Mar 1824 in Campbell County, KY. Harriet died 9 May 1825 & is buried in the Nagel Road Cemetery. I believe Mary (b. ca. 1825) was the only child of this marriage and that Harriet died in childbirth or very shortly thereafter. (After her half-sister died, Mary married George B. Holmes on 27 Dec 1848.) Mary is mentioned as Mary Holmes in her father's will. If anyone has access to the 1850 Census & can find George & Mary it would give us a better idea of Mary's age & which wife she belongs to. m. 2nd ?? b. ca. 1800-1810, d. ca. 1830-1833 [I believe there was a wife between Harriet & Esther because there's an adult female in the household in the 1830 Census and because at least two children (Harriet & Elizabeth) were born after Harriet Tull's death and before the marriage to Esther Caldwell. Note that it is extremely common to name a child of spouse #2 for deceased spouse #1. However, I have never seen a second marriage record in Campbell County for Phillip Yelton, and apparently neither has anyone compiling Campbell Co marriages.] The children of this marriage were, I think: 1. Harriet (b. ca. 1826, md. George B. Holmes 6 Nov 1845 & d. 28 Oct 1846. (The cemetery transcription says 28 Oct 1816 but I think that's either a typo or a misreading of the inscription. None of the other graves are that old & the inscription says age 20 years wife of George B. Holmes. If she was 20 when she died, then she can't be Harriet Tull's child.) 2. Elizabeth (b. ca. 1830, m. William Caldwell 22 April 1850). Elizabeth's father consented to her marriage, which indicates that she was underage. m. 3rd Esther Caldwell, 21 Nov. 1833 in Pendleton County, KY Children of this marriage were John J. (b. ca. 1834), Missouri (b. ca. 1836), and Amelia Jane (b. ca. 1839). I think it would help if we knew more about the John C. Caldwell will. When was it written (as opposed to recorded)? If, as Burnetta seems to think, Hetty the daughter of John was Phillip's second wife, why isn't she referred to as deceased in her father's will as her brother Mathew is? That is why I'd like to know when the will was written. If the will was written before Hetty's death (sometime before Nov 1833) perhaps her father didn't bother to change it after she died. In going over all this, I can see some holes, particularly in assigning the children. I wish I could help more, but ancestry.com seems to be down this afternoon. 2. Cheryl Chasin
    3. Cousins, I've just added a search engine to the website. I'm hoping that if this works well it can substitute for the index. That would make it possible for me to update the site much more quickly. Please try out the search engine and let me know of any problems or things that don't work well. Cheryl

    2. The McLendon's
    3. Who has Louis J. Yelton? He may have been pretty young when he died between 1848 and 1852? Or maybe J. Lewis? or Louis? His mother may have been a Julia? I believe this is the father of Mary J. Yelton b. 1848. Mary J. may have been b. in Shelby Co. Ky. Did he actually marry Mary's mother? Her second marrige license said she was a widow(1852) but I have been unable to find a first one for her and Louis J. Thanks, Roslyn
