    3. Cousins, In the 1850 Census for Campbell County, KY, Daniel & Winney Yelton appear on p. 84. Daniel is in the AIS index as Daniel DEILON. I found him by looking for all the Daniels in Campbell County that year. The moral of the story is (and I know you've heard this before) don't rely on indexes. Cheryl

    3. Hi Everyone, Beth sent a question that I have NO answer for. I never heard of any of the people in the message below. Do any of you recognize anyone? You can answer to the list as Beth is a member too. Thanks, Iris ----- Original Message ----- From: <Gosney7@aol.com> To: <dmreily@compuserve.com> Sent: Friday, 26 October, 2001 17:08 PM Subject: Q & A time again Iris, Always know where to turn when I need Yelton information. If you don't know it, you find it. Thanks from me to you, as always. "Ledbetters from VA" book written by Roy C. Ledbetter, William R. Ledbetter, Justus R. Moll & James D. Tillman, Jr., printed in 1964. On p. 128, it is supposed to tell about the 1st & 2nd marriages of Harold Monroe Yelton, s/o Edwin Forest & Mayme Gosney Yelton of Ft. Thomas, KY. My Question is - Who is this Mayme Gosney? The only one I have that might fit, has notes that she was unm. and died of cancer in 1972 in Alexandria, bur. Plum Creek Cem. All of this came from a wild month's subscription back in 6/00 to FTM library, and I just found my notes on this item. I know, I need to clean out more often. Can you or anyone on the list help me. 3. I'm replying to my own message, because I found some more information about this family. First, I found a marriage record in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index that shows James Yelton marrying Keziah Barlow on 20 Mar 1859 in Fulton Co, IL. Second, I found Abram Barker, his wife Gertrude, and daughter Ethel in the 1900 Census for Story County, IA. Susan Jane Yelton is also a member of the household, and the census states that she had 2 children, both of whom are living. So Susan must be the mother of both Roxana Gertrude and her brother William. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl Chasin" <CherylC470@att.net> To: <YELTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2001 4:19 PM Subject: [YELTON] Yelton in Iowa > Cousins, > > James YELTON (b. ca. 1830 in KY) appears in the 1860 Census for Milford > Township, Story County, Iowa with his wife Kezier (I think this probably > should be Keziah) (b. ca. 1832 in KY). > > I think Keziah must have died, because James (b. ca. 1827 in KY) appears in > the 1880 Census for Milford Township, Story County, IA with a wife named > Susan Jane (b. ca. 1840 in KY). 1. [YELTON] Some URL's you might like to have handy
    2. Iris F Reily
    3. Hi Everyone, I thought I'd send you all some URL's just in case you can't find them in the welcome message you received when you subscribed. It is fun sometimes to look back at messages that have been sent to the list in the last four years. There are two ways to search the list archives, they are as follows: To search the archives of the YELTON-L e-mail list http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Then type in YELTON and submit. Then you can type in your question (such as a particular name, or county, or Cemetery, etc that you want to see if we have discussed), and select the year 1998-2001 you think the message might be in. Be as specific as you can when typing in your Query, you can always go back and ask for more. For instance, you can type in October 2001 and it will show you all of the messages for October. I assume it will do the same for any month/year. This search is strictly by the topic of your choosing. Archiver search http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Type in YELTON then pick the year and month you want to look at. They have been very slow lately getting the messages on to the Archiver. Hopefully it will be fully functional soon. Ignore the Jan 1980 date, there was something wrong with Peggy's computer date setup. You can elect to view the messages in either threaded or chronological order, with or without names/dates. 3. Cousins, James YELTON (b. ca. 1830 in KY) appears in the 1860 Census for Milford Township, Story County, Iowa with his wife Kezier (I think this probably should be Keziah) (b. ca. 1832 in KY). I think Keziah must have died, because James (b. ca. 1827 in KY) appears in the 1880 Census for Milford Township, Story County, IA with a wife named Susan Jane (b. ca. 1840 in KY). The household also includes James' two children, William (age 14, b. KY) and Roxana (age 7, b. IA), and William Lenni (age 75, b. PA) identified as James' father. (Since the census states that Susan Jane's father was born in PA, and given the difference in surnames, I think he was actually Susan Jane's father). Of course, I don't know which wife was the mother of the two children. According to the Story County Marriage Database, Roxanna G. Yelton married Abram Grant Barker[sic] on 23 Jan 1894. The 1895 Census shows a household in Ames, Iowa consisting of Abraham G. BAKER, Gertrude BAKER, Susan YELTON, and William YELTON. I think this James Yelton may have been the son of James Yelton & Susannah Castator (and therefore the brother of the Mary Ann Yelton who married Nelson Dunn) as he's the only one of the right age not otherwise accounted for. Comments, suggestions??? Cheryl

    1. [YELTON] Census indexes
    2. Cheryl Chasin
    3. Cousins, Since ancestry.com now has the 1850 and 1860 Censuses up, as well as the AIS indexes, I've been looking for Yeltons and I've found some indexing errors to watch out for (in addition to the usual Yettons and Yetlons). The AIS index for 1850 identifies a Yelton family in Ocean County, NJ. I looked at the 1850 census, and it could be Yelton. But I found the same family in the 1860 Census, and the name there appears to be Tilton. Since there's no other record of a Yelton family in that county (according to the local librarian), I tend to think that Tilton is the correct name. I found William Yelton in the 1860 Census for Putnam Co, IN (that's Judy's William, husband of Mary Lockwood), but the entry was very hard to read. I couldn't find him in the 1850 Census index at all, so I looked for some of his 1860 neighbors in the 1850 index. And lo & behold, there's William on p. 407 of the 1850 Census (and in nice neat handwriting, too), but the indexer picked him up as William Selton. Considering that the very next household is that of Sterling Shackleford, and that the S and Y do not look very much alike . . . Oh, well, I am sure I would make worse mistakes. Cheryl

    3. Hi Jill, I am Iris Reily, the list Mom for the Yelton-L e-mail list. We'd love to have you join, it is free as it is sponsored by RootsWeb. There are about 80 of our cousins who are searching for and sharing information on many branches of the Yelton Tree. Have you visited The Yelton Family website? The URL: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/ We think Cheryl (another cousin) does a great job of taking all our information and putting it onto the website so we all have access to it. Here is a descendancy chart with the information I have on your branch of the Yelton tree. You will see that we could use any information you want to share with us, as we are certainly lacking in information on this branch. Yelton (Born 10 April 1860) Dear Ms. Shephard, I am the great grandaughter of Charles W. and Mary Emma Yelton. My grandpa was Daniel Aruthur Yelton, Born 24 Oct 1910. He married Louella Lynn (Born 3 Feb 1916) at Florence, Boone Co., KY on 26 June 1936. I have been trying to trace my family's history but cannot find the date of death for Charles W. Yelton. I do know he is buried at the cemetary in Williamstown, Grant Co., KY next to his second wife Mary Emma Duncan Yelton. There is not a monument at their burial site. My grandpa always talked about how he needed to have one made and placed there as he was the last living member of his immediate family. He passed away unexpectedly in 1989 and we do not know when his father, Charles W., passed away. If you have any information, please forward me an email. I would be pleased to share all the information I have put together so far. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Jill Yelton Sherman Frisco, TX

I did find different amounts of information that added to what I had recently received from all of you. Some of it is a bit confusing. I believe now that perhaps Hezekiah's parents were Abijah Dunn and Nancy Clements. IF anyone thinks this is incorrect, please let me know. I learned recently that Isabelle Smith's father was David Smith. Source: IGI I see on the Yelton Marriages of Pendleton County that Enoch Yelton married Amelia Smith. I see on the Pendleton County Dunn Marriages that Hezekiah Dunn married Amelia J. Yelton. I have a printout of a page from "Barton Collection of Northern KY Families" in which under Dunn Grooms, it shows Hezekiah born Gallatin County Kentucky married Amelia J. Yelton (her second marriage). Any further help or comments are welcomed. Phyllis Grizzell Waddell

    3. Me again, After testing to see if the *new* reply-to list was working - and finding that it wasn't - I went in and re-read how it works. Here is RootsWeb's information below. Seems my mail client, Outlook Express, adds a Reply To: (my address) to each message I send out. In that case, when you click on your reply button, the message will go only to that address. I don't know how many of you this will affect. Maybe the best thing to do is to click on Reply-All and then delete the address you do not want the message to go to. To do that, just highlight the address you don't want and then cut or delete it. And I thought this would be simple!!! Iris RootsWeb's description of Reply-to-list: "Should replies be directed back to the list automatically? This option adds a Reply-To header to any message *that doesn't already have one*. If someone on the list replies to one of these messages, their response will be sent back to the whole list by default." "However, *SmartList will never overwrite* a Reply-To if the person sending the message included their own. That means that even if you select reply-to-list, there will still be some messages where the reply only goes to the sender."

It is easy to change, so if you don't like it this new way, I can always change it back. Thanks for the input. Iris ifreily@member.isa.org (NEW) dmreily@compuserve.com (Old - but still working)

    3. Cousins, I've added a few new pages to the test version of our website. These pages cover the descendants of James & Elizabeth Yelton. This is the James who died 6 Sept 1838 in Pendleton County. Please take a look (Suzanne especially) and let me know of any errors. Cheryl

    3. I vote for "reply to" going to the list. I think it's more likely to provoke discussion.
