    3. Cousins, You will no doubt be astonished to learn that I have finally(!) finished (sort of) updating the Yelton site at Rootsweb. I hope I have included everything people have contributed over the last year or so, but if I've missed something just tell me again and I'll fix it. The index files are gone, replaced entirely by the Atomz search engine. I'm still in the process of checking the site through an HTML validator, so I'll be doing some error correction over the next few days, but for the most part the site should be fully functional. Let me know if there are any problems, dead links, etc. When I said "sort of" finished, it was to recognize that a site like this is always a work in process and is never entirely finished. So crawl those courthouses and find some more Yeltons for us! Cheryl Chasin

    3. in 1848, John Wright signed papers in the courthouse for Susannah Eldridge saying that she was the orphan of James Eldridge, guardian John Haydon. the 1880 Ky. census says Mary J. was b. in Indiana, and her m. license says Shelby co. In., m. at home of John Wright. I cannot prove that Mary J. is Susan's daughter however. She was b. in 1848, and Mary J. was a widow 4 years later, so I think I just assumed she was, or someone told me- I think I have a paper that says all James Eldridge's children were b. between 1820-40. And I just found a note that someone said that there was a note about Susan when married to Jefferson they had a child, b. 1848 who was reared by John W. & Susan. This was from someone who was in the courthouse and found it. If she was 25 during the 1860 census, she must have only b een 13 or 14 when she had Mary J. Not out of the question I suppose. Susan went on to marry my gggrandfather William Dunn in 1863. It is usually the other way around, isn't it? The men outlived the women Susan and William and his son all died on the way to Ill. during a wagon train trip in late 1870's. My ggrandfather was b. in 1875, so it was after that. This is the first thing I have seen which actually gives her dob. There was also a Leroy J. Yelton b. apx 1821-I wondered if he was this Jefferson. His parents were John W. and Judith, but don't know if this is the correct one, but it does say Susan was a widow in 1853. Who knows? Thank you for this info-I will dig out my Eldridge papers and look again. Thank you so much for helping. Roslyn

    3. Roslyn, The 1860 Census for Carroll County, KY, p. 50, Family #359, shows Mary J. Yelton, age 12, b. in Indiana, in the household of John W. and Susanna Wright. John is 48, born in Kentucky, and Susanna is 52 (or possibly 32) and also born in Kentucky. The immediately preceding household (#358) is that of Allen Wright, age 24, Susan Wright, age 25, and two boys, Resin (?) age 5, and Charles, age 4. It seems to me that the Susan who married Allen Wright, if in fact it's the same one, is a little young to be Mary J. Yelton's mother. It's not impossible, but it seems unlikely. Of course, Susan could have lied about her age either to the census taker or to her second husband. In the 1860 Census she admits to being a year old than him, and maybe that's as far as she was willing to go. Do you have anything else that points to the Susan who married Allen Wright as being Mary J. Yelton's mother? But of course that leaves unanswered the question of who Mary J. Yelton's parents were, as well as the identity of the mysterious Jefferson Yelton. 3. I personally, would say that there is a chance that Rev. McClure and Rev. Moncure are one in the same. I am the county coordinator for the Stafford County GenWeb site and I am in the process of posting the Overwharton Parish Records on the site. Hopefully they will provide a clue! And be sure to thank Iris for helping to transcribe the records! 3. Hi Connie and Dave; Don and List, Don Yelton (NH) sent me your message about the August Yelton reunion in MD. Decided to send this on to the list as you are all certainly welcome to attend. It has traditionally been held the first Sunday in August. But, it has been moved to the first Sunday in October. (There is heat in the building, but no A/C) The last couple of August's have been brutal. I'll let you know the exact date in a day or two as I must check with another cousin. That will be 5 Oct 2003. Basically, it is the James Burton & Deliah Harrell Yelton Reunion. However, we took a poll a couple of years ago and decided we would welcome any and all Yelton's with open arms! (In addition to being talkers, we are also huggers.) We usually have some who attend from NC and TN as well as MD, PA and NH. The reunion is held at the Miller's Picnic Grove on Miller's Station Road near Hampstead, MD. We would love to have you attend and if you are interested, I'll be glad to send directions, etc. There are several of us who live close enough to the Picnic Grove to offer you a bed (and breakfast too), or, if you would like we can point you to a local hotel. (I must say, staying with a cousin, however distant, is always preferable to a hotel!) Hope we get to see LOTS of you there in October. 3. Hi List, It has just come to my attention that we have several people on the list that are wondering where we all came from. I urge you to go to look at Cheryl's Websites: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/ Cheryl's Alternate site: http://www.members.cox.net/yelton A brief summary is that our GGGGGGgrandfather James Yelton appears in Stafford County, Virginia marrying Isabell Hinson in 1743. Four of their children are also to be found in the Overwharton Parish Church Records of that county. We, to date have not found any evidence of James' father and mother. James was a Tailor, as mentioned in a will found in VA. This family included: Charles Yelton born 1 Nov 1746 James Yelton born 15 Jul 1749 Mary Yelton born 18 Apr 1752 Ann Yelton born 26 Jul 1755 Amelia Yelton born 17 Jul 1755 William Yelton born about 1757 Nancy Yelton born about 1759 We have pretty good records of all but Mary and Ann and Nancy. All three boys served in the Revolutionary War and received pensions for that service. We'll be glad to answer any questions you all might have. If we don't have the answers, we'll say so. I've been actively searching the UK records for about 3 years, trying to find the family of Yelton's that sent son James to the New World. I keep thinking I'm getting close, but that only counts in horseshoes... Sorry no Don's this early. I'll see if I can find out when the first Don appeared. Iris ~Y E L T O N~ anywhere ~anytime~

    3. Hold on here, ALL the Don Yelton's are my cousins. True, the Don in NH is my FIRST cousin. Which makes him a little EXTRA special, but the fact remains we all carry those Yelton genes. Speaking for myself, it is with considerable pride too. Even if it does mean we can talk the ear off an elephant. <G> I think there are a couple more Don Yelton's we haven't heard from yet. I wonder what other duplicate names we have? There are quite a few Ron's and couple of Cheryl's. It seems we all have the "talking" bug so it can't be a Don thing. Cousin Iris

    2. Ron Yelton
    3. Morning everyone. I'm the Ron of the Ron and Don duo. Identical twins born in Gafney, SC, in 1944. Don lives in Marietta, Ga. I live in Charlotte, NC. Don may not see this message as he is in the process on moving his business. His computer system has been down for a week, and may not be up yet. We both studied engineering, although he became a business man instead, and didn't amount to anything (Just kidding). 2. Don Yelton
    3. Dear NH Don Yelton, Most of the flour bags from Yelton Milling Co are paper. I sacked many when I was a teen although I usually worked in the Corn Meal Dept. I would like to have a cloth bag myself. I see the paper bags in several grocery stores here locally. A true story: When Harriet and I got married in 1959, my dad, Don B. Yelton, gave Harriet her nightgown. I didn't know about it until the wedding night when she appeared in a Yelton's Best Flour night gown. "Self-Rising"!!!
