Iris, Made a mistake and didn't sent this to the list. Meanwhile, I've read your answer and am interested in Sarah "Sally" Mays siblings. Sounds like you've hit on something with the name Kristaetter as a different spelling of Castator. Hi Gwen, I'll answer the second part first. William Yelton, b 1757, d. 5 Mar 1834 in Pendleton Co., KY was married to Sarah "Sally" Mays b. abt 1765, d. before 5 Mar 1834 as she is not mentioned in William's Will. Her father was Robert Mays of Virginia who died in 1808 in VA. I have siblings for her as mentioned in the will, but do not have her mother's name. I have their son Robert J. Yelton married to Catherine *Castator*. This spelling came from the E.E. Barton files originally and they were married by Rev. John Taylor, the Oath given by Benjamin Yelton. I wonder if *Castator* is a variant spelling of *Kirstaetter*? I show Catherine's mother as Susannah Unknown and do not have her father's name. Please let me know what you think about the possibility of a variant spelling. I hope this helps. Iris

Cousins, I recently received the 1880 Census CDs published by the LDS Church. I have to say it was worth every penny of the $49 + shipping that it cost, and then some. These are a transcription, not a graphic image, but since I have a subscription to ancestry.com's census images, I can look up anything I'm doubtful about. So far, I have found the transcription to be extremely accurate, given the problems of old handwriting, poor images, etc. The biggest advantage, though, is the nationwide index. As you may know, the only other index to the 1880 census indexes only families that include a child 10 or younger. The LDS index is an every name index. Plus, you can search by approximate birthdate, place of birth, race, and gender. The index automatically searches for certain name variations. For example, if you are looking for "Elizabeth" your search results will include women named Betty or Betsy. If you are using the regional indexes, you can also use wildcards. Unfortunately, you can't use wildcards in the national index. In short, buy this software! It's the best $50 I ever spent on genealogy. I found families I have been looking for for several years. If anyone has anybody they want me to look for, e-mail me directly at CherylC470@att.net (note change of address). But please try to be reasonable. I have a brand new CD burner that I want to learn how to use, and I really do want to update the web page once I finish going through the 1880 Census. And occasionally my family does insist on me being somewhere other than in front of the computer.8) Cheryl
This has to be Charles Yelton, son of Edy C. Yelton and brother of James Yelton. I had seen the census entry, but did not know Martha's maiden name. Hi folks, Hope all had a great Memorial Day. I was surfing and came to this site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~csyelton/home.htm but couldn't get "home" to load. I wanted to let this person know that Sarah Luthana Griffing was the daughter of Mariah Louisa Yelton & Aaron Ross Griffing, not the daughter of Nancy Taylor (Mariah's mother) & William Griffing (A.R.'s father). Nancy would have been 58 then, pretty late to have another child. If the cousin who owns the site will contact me, I can give further details. Thanks much, Kathryn

Dear Cousin's: Hi, it's me again, the obit I typed below was also on the same Falmouth Outlook page DTD 08 DEC 1911, with Mrs. J. N. Yelton (Mrs. Dora A. Yelton). I have a Margaret Catherine Utter, b. c1890 KY, d. 08 May 1959 Pendleton Co., KY, m. bef 1909 KY, to William Richard Yelton, b. 1865 KY, d. 03 Mar 1918, Pendleton Co., KY. On Rootsweb.com KY Death Report 1911-2000 has a Margaret L. Yelton, d. 08 May 1959, Pendleton, Residence: Pendleton Co., KY, age 69 yrs (b. c1890), Vol.022, Cert. #10899. Does any know if I have the incorrect middle name for Margaret, or is KY death report incorrect? Both are buried at Butler Cemetery, Butler, Pendleton Co., KY, per list given to me by Wilma Dahlia, [Thank you again Wilma for sharing with me, it was and is greatly appreciated!] reads, Margaret [1890-1959] lot #52, W 1/2, Grave #3 & William [1865-1918] Lot #52, W 1/2, Grave #4, lot owner: Charles G. Yelton. I really don't know who this Maggie Utter is, or even if she is related to me, but the article stirred a question in my mind! With William dying in 1918, I though that maybe Margaret remarried and I had her maiden name wrong, and that it should have been Orr? The article does say she was married two times, but doesn't give their names! If anyone possibly knows who this Maggie is, would you let me know? Thank you in advance for giving me your time and perhaps some help on this one, I really appreciate it! Well, will let you all go for now, take care! ;o) Sincerely, Cuz Debbie Yelton Puschkar Article reads: Mrs. Maggie Utter Mrs. Maggie Utter, died Dec. 02, after an illness of two years. She is survived by her husband, Frank Utter, and three children; also a father, three sisters and three brothers to morn her loss. She united with the Mt. Dear Cousins: Good day to everyone, hope all are well ... and doing good! I received the following two obit from pages from the Falmouth Outlook today, 23 Apr 2001 (#1) Jasper N. I just wanted to share with all of you, because it makes me feel good sharing with all of you who have so generously shared so much with me! ;o) Thank you all very much! Have a great day, take care, hope to talk to you all again soon. ;o) Sincerely, Cus Debbie Yelton Puschkar (#1) DEATHS: JASPER N. YELTON Jasper N. Yelton, age 67 years, died Friday, February 10th, at his home in Cleveland, Ohio. He had been ill with heart trouble for the past two years, and for the past six months he had been confined to his bed. Jasper N. Yelton was born at Butler, KY, where he spent the greater part of his life. He was united in marriage to Miss. Dora Caldwell, daughter of the late A. L. Caldwell, on August 12, 1880. She passed away on November 29, 1911, while they were residents of Knoxville, TN. Some time later he married the second time. He is survived by his second wife and five children: Everett Yelton of Brooklyn, N. Y.; Finnell Yelton of Cincinnati; Wood H. Yelton, of Covington, and Miss. Marian Elizabeth Yelton, of Cleveland, Ohio. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister; Lynn (s/b Leonard) and Edward Yelton, of Covington and Mrs. William Wakefield, of DeMossville. Mr. Yelton was a member of the Christian church and a gentleman of high ideals, honest and true to every obligation. For many years he was in business at Butler, and was known to every man, woman and child in that vicinity. He had a faculty for making friends and holding them, and the announcement of his death was received with much sorrow by the people of the northern part of the county where he was best known. Mr. Yelton was as kind and gentle as a child, always looking on the bright side of life, and had a word of cheer for all those with whom he came in contact. The remains were brought back to his old home at Butler on Sunday, and after funeral services he was laid to rest in the Butler cemetery. All the children with the exception of Everett, of New York, attended the funeral. (#2) DEATHS: MRS. J. N. YELTON Mrs. Dora A. Yelton, beloved wife of J. N. Yelton, died Wednesday, Nov 29th, 1911 at her home in Knoxville, TN, after an illness of six months of cancer. Mrs. Yelton was the oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A. L. Caldwell, of this county, and was born near DeMossville, September 27, 1861. She united with the Mt. Moriah Christian church at the age of 16 years and lived a true Christian life until the end. August 12, 1880, she was united in marriage to J. N. Yelton, and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive - Everett, Finnell and Wood Yelton, Miss Beulah Yelton and Marion Elizabeth, a 17 month old infant. Mrs. Yelton left this world with much anxiety for the baby who was left motherless. When she realized the end was near, she sent for Mrs. Emma Seates, of Cleveland, OH, a very dear friend, and requested her to care for the little one left behind. Mrs. Seates, the good woman that she is, will fulfill the request and will make her home at Mr. Yelton's and care for the sweet little child. Besides her parents, Mrs. Yelton is survived by two brothers, three sisters and one half-sister ---Grant and Hoyt Caldwell, Mrs. Sallie Ellmon, Mrs. Carrie Acton, Mrs. C. C. Jackson & Mrs. Alex Bradford. Deceased had been a resident of Knoxville for the past four years. Mrs. Yelton's life hung in the balance for weeks, and all through her intense suffering she bore the trials as only a true Christian could. Her bright and happy disposition all through her illness was a source of encouragement to her husband and relatives, and she died in the faith that she had lived, believing that she was going to that better land on high. Everything that loving hands could do, was done to save her life, but all was in vain. She made all arrangements for her funeral and it was carried out according to her wishes. The death of Mrs. Yelton is a severe shock to her husband and children, and is universally regretted by a wide circle of relatives and friends in this county. Funeral services were held Thursday at her home in Knoxville, TN, conducted by her pastor in that city, and were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The body was shipped to Butler Saturday and services held at the Butler Christian church, conducted by her former pastor, Rev. H. H. Webb, now of Indiana. Interment took place in the Butler Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Her three sons, Everett, Finnell and Ward Yelton, C. C. Jackson, Harry Yelton & Robert Yelton. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. Six little girls acted as floral bearers. Cards of Thanks: Mr. Yelton and children desire to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the many kindnesses shown them during the illness of their dear wife and mother. They also want to thank the undertakers, W. G. and Frank Fryer for their kind service, and those who furnished the sweet music.
Hello, We have hit a brick wall on our family research and are hoping someone out there can help with an idea or information. Three children of Charles Yelton, Jr. (1782 - 1843) and Amelia Gosney Yelton (1792 - 1865) married three children of Charles Dunaway and his wife Polly Ellis. Coleman Yelton md. Milly (Mildred) Dunaway, Sarah Yelton md. Dudley Dunaway and Richard Yelton md. Susan Dunaway. We know that Charles Dunaway was born in Virginia and married Polly Ellis Jan 21, 1803 in Pendleton Co. Ky. He died circa 1829/30 in Campbell Co. Ky. Does anyone out there know anything about the parents of this Charles Dunaway, grandfather of a large number of Yeltons? We would be most grateful for any assistance, and of course will share information we have on the families. Carolyn Pape
Dear Cousins, Again, I'm asking for your help. Our Cousin Judy Vasiliauskas needs our prayers and thoughts as she will have surgery on Friday 20 April. This will be followed by treatment of some type, not sure at this time exactly what that will be. The more family the better at times like this. Right? Love, Iris

However, there's another Ira Yelton who was born 3 Dec 1872 and died in Riverside, CA on 26 June 1956. The California death index states that he was born in Kentucky, and that his mother's maiden name was Hopkins, so this may not be the right one, either. There are not all that many Yeltons from Kansas. Verle Yelton was born in 1913, so his father was probably born roughly between 1860 and 1890. I did a search in my database, and the only possibility I see is Edwin Yelton (since Ira's middle initial was E), who was born in 1863. However, Edwin's mother's name was Sarah Underwood. I don't have any record of a Richardson marrying a Yelton. Cheryl
