If, as I suspect, this question is directed to me and my search for George W. Yeager, I would be happy to answer. My George W. Yeager can be found in Isreal Twp. living in a boarding house/tavern, age 20, occupation given as cabinet maker, per the 1850 Preble County Census. There are no other Yeagers found in Preble County. He married Amanda Criger (var. other spellings), 1 Aug. 1852, Isreal Twp., Preble County. 1858 he and Amanda and children (?) moved to Washington, Daviess County, Indiana but appear to have left Ohio before that time. They can be found in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census. George died in 1889. His death notice gave his age as "about 60". There is some question on the age of his son, Thomas Yeager, who is either the oldest born or the second born child of George and Amanda. Children born to them are:Thomas Yeager Nancy Yeager George Yeager Joseph Yeager Richard Nicholas (who may have been Jacob Nicholas and changed his name) Fannie Yeager Mattie Yeager Nellie Yeager Nothing seems to add up with this family. Records don't match other records, so the best we can do is guess. According to the 1850 Ohio census, George was born in Ohio. In later census reports in Indiana, George's state of birth is given as PA, father born in New York, mother born in England. I can find no Yeager's who match this. As to religious affliation, I'm not real sure. Joseph and George, Jr. married Catholic girls but Amanda's obit states she belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Washington, Indiana, so I am assuming they were Protestant. As to what the "W" stands for, I don't know. Other researchers have it as William or Washington but offer no proof for it. If any of the other Yeager researchers have any ideas and suggestions to offer, they would really be appeciated. This is a brick wall that three of us have been beating our heads against for a long time. None of us have been able to get past 1850 in Preble County, Ohio. Dee Yeager dyeager@televar.com

    1. YAEGER & ESSMIN, St. Louis MO, c. 1900
    2. Searching for relatives of my maternal grandfather -- Herman YAEGER -- who lived in St. Louis MO about 1900-1911. Also searching for exact city/town of his birth in Baden. Herman was born in Baden, Germany (city/town name unknown) 24 May 1878 to Mathias and Catherine (KRAEMER) YAEGER. He emigrated to St. Louis after he was discharged from the German Army on 03 October 1900. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Jefferson Barracks, MO in 1908 and was discharged in 1911. He said in his U.S. Army record that he was living with an Aunt -- Caroline ESSMIN -- at 312 Lami St. in St. Louis at the time of his enlistment. I have found no record of this Aunt -- Caroline ESSMIN -- so don't know (if she was married) what her maiden name was -- YAEGER or KRAEMER. Anything sound familiar to anyone??? THANKS! 3. Dee, My Yeagers are from the southern branch, and most of my contacts are from the same‹descendants of the Yeagers who came to Virginia in the Second Germanna Colony in 1717. My understanding is that they planned to join relatives in Pennsylvania but an English sea captain took them to Virginia instead. The purpose of this list is to exchange information on all branches of the Yeager family. I don't have any records on George W. but I hope to get more responses from the Pennsylvania (and any other) branches, too, so maybe some other Yeager will see this and contribute. They married sisters, Mahala and Polly (Frazier) Jones after arriving in the Gallia/Meigs County regions of Ohio. I have various spellings on their name, although it was pronounced as YAUGER. 2. Daniel J. Yeager
    3. Trying to find the parents of George W. Yeager. George can be found in the 1850 Preble County, Ohio Federal Census, age 20, living in a boarding house. There are no other Yeagers in Preble County. Nor can I find any Yeagers in the 1840 Preble Co. Census. So where did George come from? In 1852, George Yeager married Amanda Criger (as spelled in Probate marriage document). Amanda's last name spelled Creager/Cregar/Cragar/ Criger, etc. George and Amanda moved to Washington, Daviess County, Indiana around 1858, according to his obit. They can be found in the 1860, 1870, & 1880 Daviess County Federal Census. They are both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Washington, Indiana. Ohio census, George is listed as being born in Ohio. In the Indiana census, George is listed as being born in Pennsylvania, father born in New York, mother born in England. Family rumor is that he is from Yeagertown, Mifflin County, PA. I can not prove this at all. This is my "brick wall" and have not been able to get any further on George for a year and a half. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
