Author: p_mcclintock1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.yarnes/23.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Do you have any documented evidence on Consider M Yarnes Sr. - being born in England, when he might have immigrated to the US? I also don't have any evidence that he actually married Susanna Dalyrymple as a number of people seem to believe. I'm just not sure how Susannah would have gotten from MA to NY as her parents seemed to have stayed in MA. I'm pretty confident that Edward William Yarnes was my 3rd great grandfather, but beyond that (confirming that he was actually a son of Consider Yarnes), I don't really have any solid evidence. Would appreciate anything you might have to share about Consider M. Yarnes' Sr. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: gyarnes Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.yarnes/23.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great grandfather Consider jr. enlisted in company E of the 137th regiment of the NY volunteers when he was about 51 years of age. Why? Perhaps out of patriotism, maybe he needed the enlistment bonus (he was afterall very poor), or both. When he came down with pneumonia, the army discharged him and sent him home to die. Very sad! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: p_mcclintock1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.yarnes/23.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for responding so quickly. That is what I have in my tree; I am glad to have it confirmed as accurate. Do you know if the military record is just incorrect (it lists that he was 40 when he enlisted) or if that is referring to yet another Consider Yarns who was born in Smithville and was discharged from the army in Jan 1863 due to a disability. It seems to me that the military record is probably incorrect. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: gyarnes Surnames: yarnes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.yarnes/23.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Marion is my paternal grandfather. He spent his entire life in the Greene, NY area working mostly on farms. Since his father Consider died from pneumonia in the Civil War when Marion was a young boy, he was condemned to lifelong poverty. His widow Rosa took in laundry to pay for his funeral and headstone. She followed him closely into the grave. They both lived a very sad life. My father, George, saw to it that his own two children went through college. Thus we ended finally that vicious cycle of poverty. I am a retired biogeologist and own a small farm. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: gyarnes Surnames: yarnes cook Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.yarnes/24/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hannah Cook Yarnes is my grteat grandmother. My sister, Beverley Yarnes Evanson, and I remember being told that Hannah was very dark skinned due to being born on an Indian reservation. At a young age she was taken in by a white couple with the last name of Cook. Hence she was not born with her current name, but had instead an Indian name which we never knew. Hence reservation records would not recognize her as a Cook. The name Hannah was given to her by the Cooks, perhaps in memory of a loved one. She eventually married Consider Yarnes, and neighbors would gossip about all of her Indian visitors. So yes she was Indian according to my father, her grandson. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GeXBAIB/21 Message Board Post: I am the great great grandson of Consider Yarnes, sr. My father, George, was the son of Marion, who was in turn the son of Consider, jr. My question is in reference to Charles Boyes (Boyce). I was told years ago by a senior member of the family that my grandfather Marion was a cousin to Charles. Charles committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth in 1866 at the tender age of fourteen just outside the town of Tyner, NY (located about 30 miles north of Binghamton, NY). He is buried in North Tyner. Does anyone have any information about him?
