"Ancient history [meaning anything that happened pre-Beatles] just isn't very useful in modern times," as one of my daughters explained when she was still in high school. Even historians wouldn't likely know much about genetic genealogy, I'd suppose. I can think of two 19th century governors that were almost certainly I1, though, one from the far north and one from the south. Their Y-DNA haplogroups can be inferred from testing of living descendants. I'll be interested to hear about the fellow you're thinking of. I'm curious whether the younger generation knows any early American colonial history? My grandchildren in school are probably told more about which hollywood celeb visited a OWS ghetto last month than how and why their country was started. - - - - Kenneth Nordtvedt See "Tree for I1" and "Tree and Map for haplogroup I" at http://knordtvedt.home.bresnan.net showing my working tree for YDNA haplogroup I.
