When I receive notice that I have been "unsubscribed" I reply asking that I remain on the list and they re-activate my account. This has happened several tine of late. Or you can just send another email that says "subscribe" in the body and the subject line. That's what I've done, and it re-subscribes me. At the same time rootsweb changed their web pages for these maillist by adding a -L Stuart had a comment during the last bout last month From: Stuart Phethean < stuart.phethean@gmail.com > Subject: Re: [yDNAhgI] Recent Spam Identification Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2014 07:47:33 +0100 Jim, I suspect that this issue, and the recent automatic unsubscribes on many mailing lists involves a problem with the implementation of a new security technical specification, DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance), http://www.dmarc.org/ . This is being implemented by the main ESPs (Email Service Providers), sometimes with rather aggressive settings. The DMARC protocol checks incoming email against the sending ESP to prevent someone spoofing email IDs to send spam & virus programs. Unfortunately, email lists like Yahoo Groups and Rootsweb rebroadcast emails so to the DMARC process, these appear as spoofs and get bounced, or in the case of a recipient with Gmail, they end up flagged as spam. See also this article on ZDNet: http://goo.gl/Rn7KvX which explains it quite well.
