    1. [yDNAhgI] Recommended SNP's for M223 Roots and Cont subgroups

    3. Dear I2b1/M223 Project Members, Results have been scored for our second WTY participant, Mendes da Silva (kit# 150778), who belongs to Roots Group 1 (DYS446=8). A brand new SNP has been discovered and it has been named L812. We have very little information on this SNP as of yet, but a previous Roots WTY participant has presumably tested negative for it (Alfeld, Roots Group 2b - DYS446 = 9, DYS531 = 12). Therefore, L812 is an SNP that can be very useful in dividing the various members of the large Roots subgroup. If you belong to Roots, I urge you to test for L812, which has become recently available for purchase on FT DNA. You may check your Roots assignment at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/M223-Y-Clan/default.aspx?vgroup=M223-Y-Clan&vgroup=M223-Y-Clan&section=yresults . To order L812, follow these steps: 1- Log into your FT DNA account 2- Click on "Order tests and upgrades" 3- Click on "Order advanced tests" (note: not "Order advanced SNP tests") 4- Select SNP in the dropdown menu 5- Type the SNP name in the box 6- Add to your basket, place your order Meanwhile, another brand new SNP has also been proving very useful in dividing the various Continental subgroups of M223. This SNP was named L801 and is also a result of our very successful WTY campaign. It was originally found in our WTY participant Rasey, kit # 69631, Cont2a subgroup. WTY participant Mendes da Silva (kit# 150778, Roots Group 1 - DYS446=8) tested L801- and L800+. WTY participant Games, who helped us confirm the L623+, L147.4+ Cont2c subgroup, also tested L800+ and L801-. So far, every Cont member of M223 (Cont1, Cont2a, etc...) has tested positive for L801. Members outside of the Cont subgroups have been testing negative for this new SNP. So if you belong to any of the Cont subgroups, you are highly encouraged to order this test. Steps to order the L801 SNP test are the same as for ordering L812, described above. As a reminder, SNP V218.2 was also discovered in the WTY of Rasey, kit # 69631. Consider ordering V218 as well. As we try to identify the correct position of these new SNP's on the Y phylogenetic tree, everyone's cooperation is very important. So if you belong to the subgroups mentioned above, again, please consider testing for L812, L801 and V218.2. I would also like to take a moment and once again thank every project member who has helped us in our WTY campaign. Several new SNP's have been discovered, which are making it possible for us to have a much deeper understanding of the M223 haplogroup. This success encourages us to send new participants to WTY, and so a second round of generous donations is expected to start soon. No amount is too small: http://bit.ly/I2b1WTY. All credit cards are accepted, as well as PayPal and mail. If the link above for some reason does not work, try: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-general-fund-contribution.aspx?g=I2b1 . Thanks again for your cooperation. Best regards, Aaron Torres I2b1/M223 Project Administrator

    3. I would not agressively pursue the V218 snp yet. It has been found derived in a recent I1 WTY, and Dr Krahn mentioned some time ago that another research group indicated they found V218 derived in I1. So the suspicion is that V218 is derived for all of haplogroup I. Probably best thing to do is find someone from P37+ division of haplogroup I to do V218 and check this suspicion out. -----Original Message----- From: Aaron Salles Torres Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 10:15 AM To: ISOGG@yahoogroups.com ; genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com ; y-dna-haplogroup-i@rootsweb.com Subject: [yDNAhgI] Recommended SNP's for M223 Roots and Cont subgroups Dear I2b1/M223 Project Members, Results have been scored for our second WTY participant, Mendes da Silva (kit# 150778), who belongs to Roots Group 1 (DYS446=8). I think a number of clades of M223* which peeled off the tree mainstream early enough will escape the L801 snp. KN]]

    3. Aaron I tested L800+ but did not ask for results on L800. You have my WTY results which if I am correct only tested down to L623 which came in positive. My DYS446=10 and Dys531=11 should I ask for the L812?
