    3. Roy, What is your current haplogroup assignment by STR classification? I assume from Ken's I1-M253 tree that you would be I1-AS3 or I1-AS-generic. If you are generic, your Z59+ result would still put you with I1-AS3, just as my Z139+ result puts me (I1-AS-generic) with I1-AS2. Phil Alfeld's Bowman cousin, who is also I1-generic, tests negative for Z58, Z63, and Z131, so he is in a 3rd sub-class of I1-generic. I certainly wish more of the I1-generics were as interested as you, Phil, and I in doing these Z-SNP tests. As I see it, they are guaranteed to get some further delineation no matter how their Z-SNP tests turn out, and at $29 per SNP the costs are not astronomical. I love colorization, especially for situations when a lot of people in a clade belong to a project, and I have such a project. We have done a fair amount of STR work on that group, and I'm sure that I will do more, but I am hoping for colorization and inclusion of advanced marker results in the ysearch database to help with that. I think that we are to some extent going through a first phase of using more whole genome sequence data to learn about SNPs and there is some catch-up to do right now. I think there will be local maxes and mins in the flow of data even as it increases, and those variations will cause us to change our balance of SNP vs. STR work from time to time. FTDNA coloring for what purpose? I could never see any. Given the way we are adding to our snp list, we are far far away from snps being able to replace extended STR haplotypes in learning about the "time" of events in the tree. I hope that is realized in the focus to snps. -----Original Message----- From: dnalister@comcast.net I tend to rely on FTDNA's mutation colorization, and the last time I checked, it was not working for markers 68-111. I believe that is true for both public results pages and GAP results displays. 1. Re: [yDNAhgI] AS2 - Z138+
    2. Ray, Do I interpret your message correctly that you are I1-AS2 and are Z58+, Z139+, and Z138+? If so, that puts you (I1-AS2)and Ken and me (I1-AS-generic) in the same clade, as judged by SNPs. Do you agree, Ken? Could this mean that the Y-STR pattern of I1-AS2 is more similar to the pattern of our common ancestor, but that the Y-STR pattern of some of us I1-AS-generics has mutated enough that we can no longer be recognized by STRs but only by SNPs? 3. My interpretation, based on my old tmrca with AS2, and the young tmrca of AS2 itself, is that both lines after parting ways simply diverged as they will. I could not suggest yet what the haplotypes looked like at the beginning of Z139+. I see some commonalities among AS2, your haplotype, mine.... but it is not much to hang a hat on. -----Original Message----- From: owodom@mail.utexas.edu Sent: Friday, December 16, 2011 6:07 PM To: y-dna-haplogroup-i@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [yDNAhgI] AS2 - Z138+ Ray, Do I interpret your message correctly that you are I1-AS2 and are Z58+, Z139+, and Z138+? 2. Kenneth Nordtvedt
    3. There are clashing results for the only two Z58 results from I1-P --- actually one from I1-P1 and one from I1-P2 I1-P is a clade of I1xL22 primarily from Poland/Pomerania/Prussia with 12 at DYS392 and 11 at DYS391, and usually a 14 at DYS385a It further divides based on DYS447 being 23 or 24, and to some degree on DYS464b being 14 or 15 First member to test got negative results for Z58, Z63, Z131. Second person got a positive on Z58. Probably is low we caught Z58 flipping in the middle of the I1-P early days. So we have an oddity! More from the clade should test.
